So today I was out with my wife, taking my stepdaughter to her weekly violin lesson. Usually I don't go along, because stuff like this happens (apologies for the grainy cell phone photo):

They had a new Peavey Grind 6 that had been sitting in its stand for months, and somehow it ended up back at home with me. $449 for the bass, case, tax, some extra case candy, shots, and spay/neuter. I'd been wanting a 6-string for some time, and this lets me start getting into that with a minimal cash outlay. Despite all I'd the problems that I'd read about the Grind's fretwork and general QC, this one really was well above expectation in terms of fit/finish, and no fret buzz at all even with the way-low action. While the tone isn't particularly remarkable, it does sound nice with a solid low B. I'll probably end up replacing the pickups at some point and maybe installing a preamp, though. I may also need to see about a back brace, 'cause in spite of how thin it is, it's *heavy* - the rough bathroom scale method shows just a hair north of 13 pounds. Aside from the weight it's quite comfortable, but it'll take a little time to get used to the really narrow string spacing (neck is 53mm at the nut, and 15mm between the saddles).

This is my third NBD in as many months. I think I need some kind of support group.

Well, I am okay to go into them--I can't afford to spend a lot that often, but if I were to work in one, my whole pay (or most of it) would go back to the store.

I already have one of those less-than-honorable Ricks, and I shudder at the thought of the Rick getting into the Grind's case, and a few weeks later finding a 6-string micro-Rick with humbuckers sitting in the corner one morning...

If you got a strong back and really wide and cushy strap it should hold for a gig.

I had a used grind 5 and even tough it was beat up by the previous owner it was a solid sounding bass.

The only reason i sold it was to raise funds for another bass. Theyre good for the buck

I have had to stay away from Guitar Center for a while ( there are two close by ) but then one day I did a foolish thing, I applied for a card at Sweetwater, so now I shop from home which is worse I think.. I ended up taking advantage of their 36 Month No Interest deal and bought my Musicman Sting HH .. been looking at them for a while now and There was no one beating their price, however I did have to wait a month for it.. but its all good..

That has got me into trouble. Kinda. Thing is that whatever shows up turns out to be worth the explanation, night on the couch, etc. It is the wrong kind of positive reinforcement.
