I will probably not end up doing much, if anything this year for Halloween.

Regarding ghosts, I don't necessarily believe in them, but I do believe there are other forms of energy and dimensions we as humans cannot perceive, let alone have something tangible to back it up. Keeping an open mind, I feel there have been too many incidents over the years to dismiss completely.

Yes, because the way I see it, I have no reason not to believe.

There have been enough reports. And the fact that I have no direct experience doesn't discount those people who are perhaps more sensitive to the presence of these kinds of things.

I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to believing in ghosts in the traditional sense we imagine them.

But different energy/dimensions are a fact.

My closest experience was when I was about 14-15 years old.
I was on vacation in Nicaragua.

It was a bit past midnight and I decided to call it a night after watching movies with a cousin.

I was sharing the next room over with my sister and youngest cousin.

They were both asleep when I came in the room and laid down on the bed.

Lights off. After about 5-10 minutes of trying to fall asleep I suddenly feel the foot of the bed sink.

Almost immediately I break out in cold sweat and am paralyzed. I wanted to yell out for my sister or cousin but I couldn't move a muscle.

I probably stayed there for 30 minutes before getting the courage to get up and turn on the light.

I told my parents about it years later after my family went again to Nicaragua and stayed in the same house and this time my sisters boyfriend claimed to have felt/seen something as well.

I do not believe in ghosts, period. Nor would I have any qualms about living near a cemetery (other than the kooks who might be hanging around there).

However, I have felt a presence sitting down on my bed numerous times. Not regularly or often, but maybe a handful of times every year. Mostly just as I'm dozing off or starting to wake up, so I attribute it to my semi-conscious state of mind playing tricks on me, nothing more. :sleep:

But I do enjoy reading haunted house & ghost stories. Boo! :wideyed:

I always set up my stage lights and play scary music on my front porch for the kids. I'll be doing it this year too. According to the experts the virus doesn't live on surfaces. Candy is a surface. I'll probably toss the candy to the kids if it makes them feel better about it. And I'll wait outside for them. Everything will be outside. I'm not worried one bit.

We always load kids up at our house. We only get a couple dozen or so. (Our yards are so huge in my neighborhood it's kind of a lot of effort to go from door to door.) So we load up whoever shows up.

I love it. Its super fun. I don't even mind the punky teenagers with no costume and a grocery bag. Screw it. They're still kids too. I'll give them a ton of candy and send them on their way. Halloween "rules" are for crotchety old people. :cool:

Yeah, I've heard of people planning on handing out candy this year with bbq tongs or pipe 'chute' slides, to keep kids 6ft distance.

I live in the self proclaimed halloween capitol of the world, I dont know what they will be doing if anything this year although they did get a new metal pumpkin sculpture over at city hall so theres that I guess ....at the rate things are going we'll be lucky to have Christmas this year

Is that Anoka, Minnesota? I read a book about that, written by a lady who helps run the festival there.
I understand they're having a contest to name that Giant Pumpkin.

yes I heard that, its just grey metal strips in the shape of a pumpkin.....I'd call it Steely Dan but I guess somebody already used that one. In the summer its a fountain and at christmas there is a very large and amply decorated tree in that spot. We usually stop and take a spin around the tree on the way home from my brothers place on christmas day, its kind of cool , not as big as the one in Rockefeller plaza but still pretty nice

Same here. Screaming Lord Such, Crazy Arthur Brown, Alice Cooper or Kiss concerts. Scary horror films. I love Halloween. I once attended a Kiss concert on Halloween & I spent one Halloween in a graveyard. Fun stuff.

I just found out today I have a Halloween gig - not sure if it's paid, probably not. An hour at a Farmer's Market. It will be good to get out.

Our town will have trick-or-treating, just with recommendations that people find ways to mask (shouldn't be too hard...) and distance. The library my wife is director of will have a "trunk-or-treat" (candy from the backs of cars, in the library parking lot) that afternoon (the gig is at noon, I'll be dressed up as Captain Hook by 2 pm).

Ghosts? Not really. I don't rule out that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy. But I'm also an historian, which makes me acutely aware of differences in cultures. The notion of (or stories about) spirits of the dead hanging around places they inhabited in life only occurs in certain eras and cultures. In the Odyssey, for instance, Odysseus CAN summon up the spirits of the dead - IF he goes to the gateway to Hades and pours out blood for them. They don't just hang around their old houses. I assume that if such a thing actually happened, it would be universal to all human societies all the time - why should the modern American dead behave differently from ancient Greek dead? Ergo I conclude that ghost stories, however sincere, are cultural artifacts.
