I think comparison/contrast threads are fine as long as they stay reasonably objective and non-pejorative. There are lots of beginner to intermediate bassists who have picked out two basses within their budget at a local store and want to know the advantages and disadvantages of each before making a final decision.
Now that I'm an old phart with a steady income, it ain't such a big deal if I try something and don't like it... easy enough to sell it and use one of my other basses. But a beginner spending all his disposable income on a one-and-only bass... much different story.
Sometimes the beginner asks "which one's better?" (so many people these days want simple answers to complex questions), but the true question is "what are the differences?"
