I'm pretty sure this is more based on popular opinion than any one person's opinion, thus mob rule, essentially. This is why Johnny Christ is so high up, I'll bet: He's got very prominent bass during live shows (so I hear), so he gets a bit more notice than other bassists today from the younger crowd.

That said, I'm a Cliff fan and this list is a joke.

I'm with you. This list is a joke, but so is ...pretty much EVERY top ten list of anything, ever.

With that being said, these bassists certainly deserve recognition. Even Dirnt being on there--when teaching kids about scales, "Longview" is the best way to show them how modes are applied to music. Even pop songs.

Uhmmmm.... I am pretty sure it's because of one person..... how many of you have even listened to L'Arc en Ciel. I don't think they have much success outside of Japan (For the record he is not nearly as good as Taiji of X japan). But yeah, this list is clearly made by a non bass player and is really just their opinion. I supposed there are no wrong opinions, but this was pretty wrong...

I have never seen Steve Swallow on any of these list even though he has pretty much a lock on the Downbeat Critics poll. These list are most interesting to see how people who work outside of the preferred genre of the voters finish.
