Double Bass Thomann or R. Schneider??? Feedback.

I am heading out for a month long Euro Tour March 1st. Planning on buying a bass in Europe. Found a player in Belgium (friend of a friend) who has agreed to store the bass year round.

Since I'll only be playing it around 2 months out of the year I don't want to spend much. Thomann and Schneider both have laminated uprights for around 430 euros. Not expected much for the price but at least I can set it up how I like.

Just want some feedback on which brand is better, if these basses can hold a 165 pound man, if there is any tone whatsoever, etc.

Any insight would be amazing.

Hi.

Neither is a "brand" AFAIK, and chances are that they come from the same factories located on the mainland China.

I'm a sort of a fan of CCB's, but sometimes it seem that I'm completely alone on that here on TB .

I'm sure that people have good reasons and just as good intentions, but my experiences about CCB's in general has been very good.

I haven't bought acoustic instruments from Thomann, but everything else that I have bought from them, has been top-notch. Their replacement policies and warranty can't be beat IMHO.

I own one of these chinese Thomann plywood basses. I like it. It's robust, good looking, and plays well (of course, you have to set it up for your playing style). The acoustic sound is not that huge (what can you expect, anyway?), but it's good enough to justify a good pickup.

the reputation of the Thomann basses is not too bad.
If your tour leads you to the north of Germany (near Münster or Osnabrück) this bass from "Mezzoforte" might be a good idea to consider, too:

It is my understanding that some Thomann models are made in China, and other are actually made by Strunel. Yes, they have a good price/value reputation, meaning you get what you pay for if you're willing to live with its inherent limitations and set it up yourself. As always, since you're actually going to be there, try before your buy.
