Thomastik Jazz Rounds WOW!

Thanks, I’ve got very slight relief in the neck I put the TIs on, and raised the saddles a little (they were on the low side before). Combined with a lighter touch most of the rattle is gone. Tone is very nice, but I don’t think I’m gonna get used to how small and pliable these strings feel. lol I feel like I’m playing a toy bass!
Like anything different give it some time and you’ll adjust.

Seriously the TI Jazz rounds are such a great string that they are what I start all my basses on first as I go through trying to find the right string to pair with the bass. It's rare that I opt for something else initially. They certainly aren't right for everything but in my experience they are the right string 70% of the time. It took me several years to figure this out though.

I had a set of Jazz Rounds lying around for a while. I normally play LaBella 760FL flats, but in the last weeks I kept looking at my bass and wondering what I am missing tonewise. So today I decided to make the switch, give it a proper setup and commit to the Jazz Rounds for a couple of weeks. I had to raise the action quite a bit and added some relief to the neck to get rid of fret buzz above the 12th string. No more dead spots around the C# on the G string! Now I have to adjust to a lighter touch, coming from playing traditional flats exclusively.

Excellent! I just put a slightly-used set on my mid-tier Soundgear...the strings are worth more than the bass. I have another set on reserve but doubt if I would pay the going price nowadays. Install did require some addt'l relief and an ever-so-slight bump to string height. From what I've read, DR Sunbeams come close but I'm sure some may disagree and / or have better suggestions.

Love your work station! Mine looks amazingly like an ironing board.

Wow indeed! I spent a couple hours last night playing along to LKJ, Bob Marley and Ernest Ranglin tunes. For me, these strings (with some foam near the bridge) work much better for Reggae and Dub than the LaBellas, and with the dead spots gone and a generally more even tone across all strings, playing is much more enjoyable.

In general, not only do they sound better and I get to use a much wider range of my bass's and preamp's controls (and sonic range), they also make playing so much easier. Due to the lower tension, the higher action doesn't bother my fretting hand and I no longer have the feeling that my right hand is holding me back. Things that are hard with flats, like hammer-on/pull-offs and using my thumb are significantly easier now. I feel like having trained with weights on all this time, and my technique improved a lot by simply taking them off.

Looks like it's time to change my signature. ;)

Ah, another one has finally learned the joys of TI JRs. :)

Hmm mine last a long time. I actually had some on my jazz bass for almost 3 years. They were pretty dead by then but still sounded great imo. I can easily get 10 months out of them.

I had two series of strings I liked, and one is no longer on the market, so TI jazz rounds are on most of my instruments.

I had them on my main bass for about 8 years. Totally dead but still played and sounded great- more broken in than a traditional dead, thumps string. I changed them out and wished I hadn’t afterward because the sound and feel of the really old TIs were perfect. Only string I’ve ever been able to do that with.
