Thoughts on Roadworn Fenders

That's my taste, too. I have 3 gorgeous modern basses and 4 vintage basses. The RW Jazz basses fit in well. They do great vintage tone, but the cost is less than the modern or vintage instruments. They can not do the sounds of a Valenti fretless 5 or a Sadowsky p/j 4, but if one is "lost," it is not hard to replace.

Question—has anyone had the chance to compare one of the new Lacquer Classic Series '60s Jazz Bass to the Road Worn '60s Jazz Bass? I mean side-by-side? :ninja:

If anyone in the DFW area or on Oahu has a Lacquer Classic Series '60s Jazz Bass, I will come to you with a Road Worn. :cool:

Jim, I actually just bought a 50's Classic P-Bass body with the lacquer finish. If at all possible, I'm trying to find a Roadworn Jazz neck to put on that body. I know it won't be comparable to my Roadworn Jazz, but I'm hoping that it's going to age nicely and be a nice complement to my Jazz bass.

Love my RW SB Jazz. Had it for 6 months now. Great tone and the neck is a dream to play.
No fret sprout and love the rolled neck edge. Bought it new. Can you believe it hung in the music store for almost 3 years ? Got a great deal. If I had to complain about anything on this bas, it would be the arm wear relic job. It's just too much and too wide. I've thought about taking it to a painter and having them cover it over. Crazy , I know, but's it my only issue with this bass. I love to get a Fiesta red RW Jazz next.

I have two RW Jazzes, one in Fiesta red and one in 3tsb. The 3tsb literally hung in a music store for over 4 years. I had a hard time getting them "down" to ~$850. The first one I bought was fiesta red and used. I paid only $675.

I have found that the arm contour on both of mine is wearing a lot. For example, here is the Fiesta red instrument after about 10 months of heavy use (nearly daily for 1-3 hours, often in a very sweaty environment). :bassist:

My Road worn Precision and Jazz are both very light. I tried them liked them. I will say that I got them both at a really great deal, they sounded great, but I just had to put Seymour Duncan antiquities in them. Now they are even better.
