Thread doesn't have any teachers

I looked at the thread for teachers and students and only found one person listed there. I then tried the advanced search method and that didn't show any teachers either. How is the best way to go about finding a reputable instructor in the Sacramento, CA area? I have been looking at the instrument stores in town and they offer instructions. Is that the best way to go or how do I go about finding a private teacher in town? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Trusting the guy in the back room of a music store or even worst looking on the bulletin board for teachers - No, don't do that. Let me say that again, No, don't do that. Best way to find a good instructor is word of mouth. Ask other musicians who they use and would they recommend him/her for what you are wanting.

Also IMO if you go to an instructor and can get in right away with out being put on a waiting list - that speaks volumes right there. Expect to be on a waiting list.

guitar shop guys are the worst.usually good for teaching kids a nirvana riff or two but thats about it and most are guitarists with very little bass experience.you need to learn about technique from a REAL bassist.ive also found that the best teachers dont really advertise.i put an ad on craigslist and found a good one through somebody elses recommendation...stay away from the guitar teacher teaching bass on the side!!!

Follow the instructions in this thread on finding an instructor. I just searched for "Sacramento" and several instructors came up.

BTW, I think it's unfair to dismiss all music store teachers as incompetent. The important thing is to find a real experienced bass player who will teach you more than just licks or techniques, IMO. Good luck.
