Three bassists over for dinner

Val Buchmier. My first Orchestra director, and Primo Bassist. He taught me boatloads on upright.

Dugan McNeill, Of moderate fame with the band Chameleon out of Minnesota. He was the inspiration behind me getting into bands. Odd enough more people know the keyboardist from that band (Yanni). He also inspired my back problems by my choosing to wear my bass at my knees for about 5 years.

Tom Petty. Not famously known as a bass player, but He played... I'd want him just because of all the rock stars past and present... his personality seemed beyond laid back... My bet is it would be a blast to spend some time with him. Stories galore.

Since it's for dinner, I'd be inclined to have guys over that I know are decent guys; bass talent would be secondary. At my job I have met some "big name" musicians; some of them are very nice people, some not so much (and it doesn't correlate with genre!)

Jaco is out - he's been dead for years; he'd stink up the place.

Geddy I think I'd be cool with - seems like a nice guy.

I think Guy Pratt would be a cool invite - decent guy, good at telling jokes.

And maybe Victor Wooten - from the videos I've seen - interviews and such, I think he's a decent guy.

I feel ya. I’d be afraid that Jaco would take a dump on the table, or rub chicken grease all over himself.

Mike Watt, Paul McCartney, Ed Cynar. Different reasons for each but I think they'd get along swimmingly.

We would talk about sports and pop culture and try not to beat the whole "umm, you play bass? I play bass too" horsey.

I would give anything to have a conversation with Billy Shears about crafting songs.
I would like to thank Mike Watt for influencing me and showing that you can be successful on your own terms.
I would like to feed Ed Cynar a fabulous meal because he helped invent rock'n'roll and was the bassist that all your influences' influences were influenced by. Like I said, he invented rock'n'roll bass playing, hard stop.

I would welcome them with a drink. Maybe some ranch water but with Sotol instead of tequila because it's Texas!
I'd serve my pimento cheese which is a blend of sharp cheddar and mozzarella but the secret ingredient is adobo sauce and Duke's mayo, only Duke's. People who don't like Duke's mayo are buffoons.
For the main meal I'd center it around my totally handmade shrimp tacos with homemade tortilla, pico, etc. Probably serve lightly grilled squash on the side. If any of them are vegetarians or vegans I would just serve it anyway and they'd eat it to be polite. Except it's so good they'd change their ways.

There would be not one mention of weight, nut width, or string spacing because these guys are too busy playing to be weighing.

Hungry?
