Three bassists over for dinner

I read the NYTimes Book Review section every week, and it has a feature where they ask a series of questions to an author, one of which is: you're having a dinner party. Which three authors, past or present, do you invite?

So that's my question: which three bass players, living or dead, would you like to have dinner with?

I'll go: James Jamerson, John Paul Jones, and Paul Simenon. Masters in different genres and incredibly influential. Would be fun just to hear their stories.

Jamerson, Verdeen White, and I like to ask Jack Bruce but…. We’ll I’m afraid he’s not a mixer type, so Chuck Rainey.

Wow ... pick three?! I could give a completely different answer tomorrow but, right now, off the top of my head I'd say that these seem like decent guys and are phenomenal players whose abilities I respect a lot:
- Paul McCartney
- Geddy Lee
- Dave Hope

I'd be looking not just at their musical history, but who they are as people. It was actually easier than I thought it would be. All are of course great musicians, but I think I'd like to hang with them as well.

1. Paul McCartney. Can't think of anyone who'd have more interesting stories to share, and he seems sociable and witty.

2. Geddy Lee. Incredible musician who is articulate, thoughtful and passionate, has interests in art and music, has parents who are holocaust survivors

3. Bootsy Collins. Fun, honest, earthy and raw. Then again, maybe Charles Mingus goes here....hmmm..

I came up with these before reading anyone else's.
