Three DI's, One Choice...

Hey gang... I'm in the process of trying to select a new DI to add to my arsenal, and the three I've decided on are as follows:

Radial Pro 48
Radial J 48
Countryman Type 85

I like the fact that the Countryman can be supplied by a 9V battery if needed, whereas the Radial DIs cannot. This DI will be used live and in the studio, so flexibility and quality are keys in this decision for me. Please chime in if you have any experience with these DIs. Thanks in advance!

Radial has a spec comparison sheet on their website comparing the 85 to the 48

I have the Countryman and love it. I had the Avalon U5 and couldn't tell any difference in it and the Countryman.

The Radial * 48s are meant for active instruments, and the Countryman works best (IMHO, YMMV) with a passive instrument.

I didn't even know the Pro 48 was out. Again IMHO, the Pro series is meant for live use and the more expensive J series is meant for studio and/or where you need the extra features.

I've been using my Countryman 85 on the road with active & passive basses for 8 years. I never had any problems & never had a soundman complain about it. I use a battery in mine so i don't have to run up to the board to ask for phantom power. I used it 1 time to record direct. It was fine by itself,but I'd like to try it with miking my Bergantino cab. I have never tried the Radial DI's.
