I don't remember seeing this before. Can anyone compare the Thumb bolt on 5-string neck (regular, not the wide neck) to the Stingray 5 neck?
i actually own both basses so i could be of some assistance. dont know what you are looking for as far as comparisons though. string spacing....the thumb bo5 is very tight. too tight for my tastes actually and im kicking around the idea of unloading my thumb as i dont play it much anymore. the stingray is more to my taste. not too wide...not too narow. iirc the spacing on a thumb is aobut 17mm and the sr5 is 19mm im sure someone will chime in and straighten me out on that though. the thumb neck is definitely thicker front to back than the stingray 5. the stingray 5 is still beefy...dont get me wrong...but its definitely thinner than the thumb. i actually like the thicker necks...so both basses are very good to me...i just cant get the feel for such tight string spacing on the thumb as i am experimenting with slap style. i used to be a pick player and the tight spacing seemed to suit my style pretty well but since changing to finger/slap...im having a harder time adapting to my thumb thatn i am to my sr5. oh...btw...the thumb bo has 24 frets and the sr5 has 22...just in case you didnt know that either. the majority of this is just my honest opinion. if you want actual hard facts and measurements i can give them to you but it will take a day or two to get them anything else i can help with id be glad to d
The Thumb BO has very thight spacing, one of the thightes I`ve tried. But whats keeping me from bying one, is that it has a very thick neck front to back. Warwick has sqrewed up here, I remember their earlier necks, they were among the best.. Love the sound though
Thanks for the comments. The Stingray neck width and string spacing work well for me. I noticed from the Warwick website that the neck width at nut is listed as 1.77"; very close to the Stingray 1.75". Because of the comparison, I thought that the string spacing would be similar as well. I have also read about the chunkiness of the Thumb neck. I prefer something close to the Stingray. A bit more chunkiness would be ok; a lot more probably would not.
