Thumb rest

I'm trying to figure out a way to install a thumb rest on my G&L L2000 (no pickguard) somewhere between the neck pickup and the neck, but without drilling holes in the body...has anyone come up with a clever way to do this?

I saw a Hofner violin bass here that had a metal bar between the two pickups secured to the screws that held the pickups. do the same but extend the bar so it goes toward the neck some.

Somewhere in the search results that didn't show up would be a suction cup, and a stick-on clear rubber-ish foot.

Search is being a pain. I knew I had posted in this old thread, (though not in the direction you seek - that's the folks that posted after me) but when I searched for "thumb" or "thumb rest" posted by me, no results. When I just searched for everything I've posted, and went looking, there it was...

get a clear piece of acrylic, cut notches for your pickups and let it sit there, above the picks so gravity holds it in place,maybe a touch of double sided tape on the pups,so you have a straight clear strip between your pups, a bit could extend towards the bridge too.

I'm gonna use a half round clear plastic pipe to fit on mine, using one PG screw.

I tried this and it worked well. I made a prototype using a scrap piece of MDF and "Scotch - Exterior Weather-Resistant Double-Sided Tape". I played for a few hours and was able to remove it after practice without any damage. Now I just need to make another one that will look and feel better. My only concern is how the tape will hold over time. Will the glue become harder and damage the finish, or will it simply eventually fall off? We'll see I guess...

I had one that was mounted to a plastic P-bass pickguard for about 9 months before I took it off. None of the adhesive stuck to the guard. I wouldn't hesitate to stick one on a poly finish body, but not on a nitro finish or an oil finish. That just seems too risky, IMO.

I'm using that foam stuff (3M super hold or some such thing) on a poly finish.

I moved it around twice (to get it right) after a week and no marks.

I cut mine exactly around the rest and it's holding very well. It was a temp solution, but I think I'll keep it.
