Thumbrest between the pickups - would you use it?

I could easily sell these for around $10 - 15 depending on the woods involved. They're fairly easy to make.

I've never really anchored my thumb much, so I've never really used thumbrests or ramps. Maybe as a position for a particular song, but not in general. If I do use it, I just push it against the bass where ever I happen to be, doesn't have to be a rest there. I have used pickup bezel corners and edges, but that's more as a position indication as an actual rest.

On my P, no between pickups, on my PJ really not enough of a gap to warrant it, on my Jazz basses maybe.

I really would rather have a thumb rest between the pickup and the neck.

I like to use the edge of the pickup as an anchor and I install ramps on all of my basses parallel to and between the pickups.

I have a full size ramp between pickups that came with the used bass I bought. It hadn't been a problem, but now I'm thinking of at least routing it down, close to the face. My style has had to change due to nerve damage, and I actually need to be able to dig in a bit. Funny how things change!

My thoughts, as well. I play fivers and find that conventional thumb rests and pickups anchor the hand too far from the playing field.

I wouldn't use one if it was there. I added a thumbrest to my P bass so I could play near the bridge but I would probably go for a ramp if I was adding something between my pickups.

I think it's very nice. And I like the idea of placing it so it's the same distance as from the E to the A string. I'd say go for it, although it seems like there is a general reluctance among those who've already responded. (Mandolin players go crazy for these kinds of things, and there is a healthy market for all kinds of doodads, from pick guards to arm rests. Different crowd, go figure.)

I see lots of recommendations for ramps, but personally I think ramps are rather ugly. Your little block, nicely matched to the body wood, is much more attractive to my eyes.

A previous owner put a thumb rest on my stingray.. I actually find myself using it to go back and forth from the neck to bridge area.

If you basic ly put a block under the strings it's actually ideal for economy of motion, I highly suggest you watch Evan brewer on bass player live for more detail

Every single bass that I've owned had no thumbrest.
I've gotten along fine without one till now.

for me, as a beginner my 1st bass, a P/J Yamaha, had pickups similar to these....I started resting my thumb on the P cover but found the screw head and round portion of the pup dug into my thumb and was somewhat painful , plus I started to wear the finish off the screw head...I have tried some of the Yamaha TRBX basses and they have a curved face for a built in thumbrest...someone was thinking!.......my next bass is my MIM Jazz.....it has very sharp edges on the pup like the above......I tried a Thumbrest and it works for me and looks great on my bass.

You have come up with a rather good idea. 10 people on TB saying no doesn't mean anything. I think with some tweaking and such you could probably be successful doing this.

But, I'm not your marketing man or design engineer so honestly I'll keep my ideas to myself as I'm not going to help make you a million dollars and not get a cut.

I like having a good, solid thumb rest.
It lets me dig in, if I want.
I also like to anchor my thumb in different places,
for different sounds.
Two of my basses have rests that extend from the bridge to the neck.
One is brass, the other plexiglass.
