Thunderbird Classic Pro-IV strings too close to the neck

Hello fellow bass players, I recently received my dream bass (Thunderbird classic pro-iv in alpine white) as a gift, but I've got a problem. I'm used to an older cheaper bass (maybe i just need to adjust?) that has its strings far away from the neck. The new Thunderbird is very different, but the one thing that's really got me is how darn close the strings are to the board. This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't play so much hardcore punk, but as i do, it is a problem. I tried messing with the saddles as it seemed like my best option, but that helped me little if at all. I heard that most people with this problem have their bass "professionally setup" but i really don't have the money for that (i mean like i REALLY don't have any money so no "go out and buy this 500 dollar tool its cheaper than getting it setup by someone" suggestions please). I went to look at other options and i saw people said that you should loosen the truss rod, however i can't seem to find it on my Thunderbird (if this relates to it, the bass IS all one piece, the neck isn't just bolted on its part of the body). anyway if you guys have any ideas or suggestions PLEASE do comment them because this dream bass is getting on my nerves. Thanks :D

sorry i meant to take this down, i fixed the problem, i didn't realize the truss rod would be behind something screwed down :p sorry about that

Okay, you're on the right track but still have a way to go. First thing I would do is check my relief. Again, this would be a great time to hook up with somebody who has done this before. While we're at it, are you clear on the procedure re: bridge adjustment for string height?
