So basically using either a Epi Pro-IV and a Classic Pro-IV would not be the best choice for an 8 string with 1,5" narrow nut, I guess...?

So if I decide to go the Epi way, that would mean either getting a Pro-V which I do think has a pretty wide neck altogether (1.93" at the nut), or using a standard IV, which has a 1,75" nut...

Also I've noticed that some of my Chinese made Epi's seem to have a slightly chunkier neck, than my Korean ones, so I guess they would be suitable candidates, right?

I'd go with the Pro V, the neck laminations are more likely to stand up to the added strings and the Schaller will cover the original bridge holes no problem. You're going to have to dowel and redrill the headstock. Use 4 bass and 4 guitar tuners.

I really do wish I had pulled the trigger on the used V a little faster. I guess I better start collecting all the parts, so I have them for the next one, that becomes available.

Anyway, I do have two more questions;

Is there a smart way to calculate the string spacing, when cutting the nut, or are there templates available anywhere?

Also, when converting a Pro-V to 8 strings, would I also have to exchange the pickups for some pickups made for a IV or other 4 string bass?

No template I know of.

I always thought the pickups had separate pole pieces for the individual strings beneath all that plastic/epoxy - If that isn't the case, then what was all the fuzz about with the first batch of Pro-V's, which had a week B-string?

The pickups use bar magnets, not poles. The problem with the V pickups is that they are the exact ones as used in the IV. The magnetic field isn't wide enough for 5 string spacing. It should be OK for 8. That's also a problem with Gibson Studio V TBirds.

Hamer used 35 series pickups in their 8 and 12 strings. I use 4 string ThunderBuckers in mine.

Got the SuperTone installed. Interesting. Two of the bolts' hex heads I had a key for, and two I had nothing that fit. Those were in between 4mm and 5mm. Nothing for those bolts was included by Hipshot. So I used the two I had the key for. One tightened down well and the other is snug, but will not fully tighten. Sort of like the truss rod cover. What's up with that?

My guess would be that Hipshot includes both metric and imperial bolts, since you didn't have an Allen key for the other bolts...

Did you check the bushings for any debris or such, since you can't fully tighten the other screw?

Oh. Sorry, I meant that the bolt will keep spinning, though not too freely. The bridge seems to be solidly in.
