Ah yes! Thank you re the band, that was a really fun show!

A LOT of guys have asked me about that bass, I had no idea it was so rare when I bought it - Nor do I understand how bass of such fine build quality could be so unknown - I got it for a very fair price too.

It has a great looking backside too

I've been messing with my goth tbird recently, but since i've acquired it, I've never had neck dive since i hung the bass low. But i've recently moved my strap pin closer to the neck (arrow marks the spot), but still on the "upper horn" and it doesnt feel heavy at all. I don't feel like i have to hold the neck up, it stays perfectly balanced. Plus, i have a homemade leather belt strap. it don't slide . Just a tip for the epiphone thunderbird owners and users who havent mastered the dive yet

The bass is tuned down a half step because they wanted to play it in Bb.

Interesting thing. I pulled the bolt out that wouldn't tighten down, to compare to the stock ones and the other set from Hipshot. I definitely used the right ones, because of the thread spacing. Put the bolt back in and this time it tightened down. Cool.

Incidentally, because of this and the truss rod screws, I called Gibson about the truss rod. They said to take it to an authorized service place to be checked out. One of them on their list, Peekamoose, is excellent.

The pickups use bar magnets, not poles. The problem with the V pickups is that they are the exact ones as used in the IV. The magnetic field isn't wide enough for 5 string spacing. It should be OK for 8. That's also a problem with Gibson Studio V TBirds.

Hamer used 35 series pickups in their 8 and 12 strings. I use 4 string ThunderBuckers in mine.

I also play Detroit Strings SS wirewounds from webstrings.com - they stay bright for quite a long time also and I have not seen excessive fretwear with them. I get maybe a week of staying bright from Rotos.

I had the D'addario SS on, but I switched to the nickel ones because I'm afraid of fret wear. I really like them too. Will probably keep using them.
