I'll start us off with this shot of Phil Jones, the Thunderbird he's holding is a one-off, made for The Scorpions tho never used. Korina and a bound and blocked neck - Sexy!

Thanks Mark will do! Well I finally got a chance to wire this beast up today. Nailed it on the first try! The Model G really shines in this bass, BIG sound and even string response. The X2N is probably a little narrow for the bridge position, the G string is a little weak but no matter I plan on using the Model G for the most part so that should mask any deficiencies the X2N has in string coverage. It took a while and Waterstone has big ones to ask what they do for these basses. Mine ended up costing me $589 because they swapped it out for a damaged Mod bird. The V8 sells for $789....... No way a stock V8 is worth that. In the end and $300 worth of parts I got a pretty cool unique 8 string Thunderbird. Knowing what I know now I should have just had Carlo ( Cataldo basses) build me a 8 string NR !

Someone asked about the Banjo tuners. If you keep the tuner heads tight they work fine. they would need to be checked every time you use it though and I doubt they would hold true for a whole night. For now they will stay, I only plan on using the bass for a song or two a night.

That was me- a friend of mine said the banjo style on the Gibson firebirds were an issue too- i couldn't deal with the slippage and didn't want to start trying by replacing parts-

So............

Tongue-in-cheek.
Knowing you're really King on the Non Reverses, how long will this Reverse last oh Kingly one? :D

Mark glad to give you my opinion ;) Just don't make me post that pic of you with the Ric and mustache. ;) Unlike it's Gibson brethren this reverse has excellent upper register access, a big plus for me. At the moment this is my only multi string bass and I have wanted one for years. In the end I wound up with a unique Tbird 8 string. I love the Dimarzio pickups in it, gives the bass a real Hamer vibe. In for a penny in for a pound. It's mine now, I'll keep it.

I wish there were banjo style tuners for bass guitar. I'd put them on my goth thunderbird. Which, BTW, is getting a slight paint job. Just a bit of red binding on the wings. Will post pics when it's done (doing this at home and on my own so takes time with school and job searching) Also, for those who have nikki sixx Mk II by gibson, whats the deal with volume tone and kill? Tone wise i mean.

I had no idea you'd seen that pic of me with my Rick! :D

It was the '70s even I wanted a Porn Star moustache

Real nice combo. Me likey.
Any headstock pics available ?

Brutal Scott!

I remember when they showed these the first time, they had a purple one that I was really horny for, but missed out.............Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing as I don't have your skill at this.

From my perspective Watertone isn't much more than a cool logo. I'm a vintage snob but I love a well made inexpensive bass, I don't care where it comes from. Back in the day we paid dearly for unplayable crap. Now there are so many choices, you can get a great bass for between 200-300 bucks new! Waterstone should be ashamed.

I said somewhere else that I should have had Carlo (Cataldo Basses) make me a eight string bird, and I just might. But to be brutally honest for the money I should have bought one of those sparkly silver Carlo Robellie 8 strings. They get very good reviews.

Still rockin' and lovin' my home build NR (named Jr.)
It has become my main bass as I returned the White Epi due to a few QC issues.
I miss it though so I'll likely grab another, or build a 5er.... ;)

Just received my Cataldo JAE Bird from UPS. Pics to follow tomorrow - tonight is for playing it. So far, I'm really impressed with with build quality, playability and sound - definitely the biggest sounding, most aggressive, biggest low end. Very excited to finally have it. Carlo seems like he really hit it out of the park on this one. It's basically a standard JAE Bird with Max Thunderbuckers.

Here are two cell phone pics of my new Cataldo JAE Bird. As mentioned earlier, it's basically a standard JAE Bird with the Precision neck and the Max Thunderbuckers.

So far, I've been really impressed with everything. My bass arrived very safely and well packaged. Great workmanship, etc. The set up is amazingly low. It's very familiar feeling and playable because of the neck. The tone is really the main differentiator - very aggressive with lots of low end. I have it strung with DR Low Riders. It also balances really well - a bit lower than some of my other instruments - sort of like the neck wants to be parallel to the floow in classic T-Bird position.

Anyway, I'm still obviously in the honeymoon phase, but I should be.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that it's #51 - not sure if it means mine is the 51st overall Cataldo or 51st JAE Bird.

I like it best with both pickups and tone fully open. Thanks again to the other fans in the club - you ultimately gave me enough GAS to move ahead.
