Thunderbird Club Pt. II

Took the plunge, bought an epi goth tbird. I gotta say, with new and better pots alone, the muddiness diminished and I was left with tremendous low end, without the nasal growl of my P bass. I am very pleased.

Will get pics when I can. Thanks for all the information in the previous thread.

Here's a random thread bump for the day..........

Just a comparison of a '76 Gibson and a Lull T Bass.

Updates on the Bluebird, with more chrome on the way...

So far:
Gibson TRC, Hipshot Ultralite tuners, bone nut, chrome bridge, Gibson silver top knobs, silver jack nut, DR Black Beauties, Schaller straplocks in off center positions

That's looking great!
It's amazing what chrome does for Pelham Blue, are new pups part of the upgrade?

Where'd you get the chrome bridge? VERY cool!
I tried getting a chrome one from Gibson, but they swore up and down that it wouldn't work. :eyebrow: So I found an Epiphone chrome one on Ebay. Figured the chrome would be better than the Allparts nickel one. Even though the ferrules have the lip on them, the action isn't bad at all. In fact I had to raise it just a little bit.

Yep- bridge cover, handrest, and pickup(s). Maybe even a chrome opti-grab :bassist: For now I can live with the current neck pup, since it will be hidden under the handrest and I don't mind the way it sounds. I rewired the pots so the tone only rolls off the neck pickup and I use it more for "thump" anyway, blending it with the direct bridge pickup. I'm waiting to see if I can come across a Gibson pup shell or pickup and ring for the bridge before I drop more $$$$ on a Lull - but the Lull will probably end up being what I get by default. I did think about a putting a mudbucker there ala the Skynyrd bass- lots o' chrome for cheap ;)

...Dr Eagle, Thank you for great review of the Epi and Gibson
5er's, I have yet to even see an Epi up here in Seattle - at least I got to play a buddies Gibson a year or so back.

Really? I've seen several Epi Pro 5s this year. Heck, I've seen three in the past week. GC Seattle, GC Kirkland and Kenelly Keys on Everett Mall Way. All three were natural finish.

Which is ironic since I haven't seen a natural Epi Pro 4 for many months. So I finally settled for one of the Antique Sunburst ones. I've been waiting three weeks for the case though. It seems that there are over 20 various Epi T-Birds currently in stock among the five Seattle/Tacoma area Guitar Centers and ZERO cases!!! What are they thinking? They didn't even have a propperly fitting box for me to bring it home in!

Just got me an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V:

I must be missing them at the downtown GC, I'll admit to not want to travel up to Kirkland on 405 tho, I hate that freeway!
The GC across the street from my work (Tukwila) is likely the worst one anywhere when it comes to basses, really a miserable selection.:hmm:

Gotcha Tony,

You're #85. Lovely white 'Bird too.

Rob,

The bridge should fit, the posts may have a metric thread tho, they aren't too spendy so probably worth a shot.

Chrome test on the stock pickups. Will work for now until I get something permanent in place.

Where to find those chrome covers for the stock pups? Love the blue w/chrome. Got some chrome knobs coming for the Goth...probably gonna continue to chrome it (pickguard is stainless from the dude on ebay) with bridge, tuners, etc. 2 Epi's get me a #, Clint?! LOL! Thx, Rob.
