Try some DR Black Beauties. I think you will find the tone your looking for with them. Many other people here would agree.
+1 I use DR BB's on all of my Thunderbirds. Very warm and woody sounding, without being too dull and thumpy like a set of flats. Perfect combination with the mahogany IMO.
Although, if I had a cherry bird - I'd proabbly roack a set of DR Red Devils. Same coating as the BB's - just red.
