Thunderbird Club Pt. II

Just a mayyyyybeeeee?
I found an amazing rare Stingray I might have a chance to grab.
But would need to possibly sell off the brand new 2011 limited edition Tbird I JUST bought from Sweetwater to get it.
Would know if this is a reality later tonight hopefully?
If it does happen, would any of the Tbird clubbers have any interest?
Wanted to pass a headsup before making an actual for sale thread on it.
As mentioned, this is not 100% for sure just yet...Just a feeler to see if there is any interest?
2011 Gibson Limited Edition Cherry Thunderbird with Gibson USA hard case
New price was $1,599.99 at Sweetwater.
Getting harder to locate in stock out there on the web.

That was short lived Mrfstop! The fretless Bongo over the T-bird?

Naw, fretless bongo in addition to....not instead of.

Have wanted to try a fretless bongo HS for sometime...got a good price for a mint one...so picked it up.
It's pretty cool...Still forcing myself to THINK I will like fretless...having doubts. LMAO.
This is my 3rd fretless attempt...
If I sell this one at some point it will most likely be my last attempt.

The only reason I was considering moving out the Brand new LE Bird, was to obtain an amazing as new Stingray Classic with roasted BFR neck for like $800 less than it is new.
A once in a lifetime op at that price
I am a huge Stingray fan.
Looks like I waited a day to long however to decide...I think it is now about to be sold.

I like the Tbird...I guess I am not YET loving it.
Maybe I will? Maybe I will not? Time will tell I guess?

LMAO! get the tar and feathers.....hahaha!! :D

Hey fstop,
Give it some time and you'll love it. I'm playing my Blackbird and my RD religiously now - my Lakies, Jazzes, and the P basses are starting to get jealous. All this coming from a guy who never touched a 'Bird 6 months ago...

I hear ya.
I am thinking about slapping a set of some type of flats on it? Which I never have played on a fretted bass before.
But this Bird seems bright to me?
I wanted a bird because I heard they are more of a warm deep tone.
So this is kind of odd and frustrating honestly.

I am the way you are, but only I have played nothing but my Musicman basses for about 6 months and have an Alembic, A LE Warwick and a G&L ( which I love ) that are chillin in cases begging to get out more often. :help: lol

More basses than time sadly.

Found this beautiful bass hanging on a wall at Guitar Center, and immediately snatched it up. I've added a chrome knob to give it flair, and am currently working on a full chrome hardware makeover. Could I get a number please?

Try some DR Black Beauties. I think you will find the tone your looking for with them. Many other people here would agree.

Black Beauties are not tape wounds. They are coated strings, but I don't remember what the coating is. I use them on my ebony Bird and I love them. They are not as bright sounding as the other DR Highbeams that I use, but not dead sounding either. I'm not good at explaining sounds, but to me they sound like a set of nicely broken in round wounds. Not the extra bright that you get from a new set of rounds. Hope that made a little bit of sense.

Yes it totally does...and thanks!!
I love the tone of a broken in set of rounds..
And dislike the tone of new ones.
I will check them out on feebay and in a google search to shop prices on them, thanks guys :D :bassist:

Oh do you guys buy the Extra long scale for your Tbirds?
I know I bought one set so far for mine and it was a set of nickle rounds by roto sound.
The were just Long scale and the G string only barely made it around the tuner once...Would be nice to get two or so times.
Was thinking Birds must require an extra long scale set...yes? no?

I got a thousand projects in the back of my mind (custom builds-my own designs or rippers, g3, ibanez destroyer, etc) But this is one i really want to do.

I'm thinking of acquiring a ltd silverburst epiphone t-bird and flipping it to a gibson 1979 bird model.

I have the baselines of what i'm going to change on the bass:
Ultralite tuners clover 3/8, pickguard (custom white with 79 bird logo and fit epiphone model) paint (sand off headstock, neck and body to refinish all in white). and that's about it. the pickups i'd change them to lull pickups since i hear great comments about them and they sound great but for now, i'm going to keep the stock ones on.

Note: picture of nikki sixx holding his first bird with his band london.

Hey guys,
I have an Epiphone Thunderbird that I'm considering selling. I wanted to ask you guys first; is there a good market for this bass? As in, do you guys think I'd be able to make decent money back, or would I loose a lot in the sale? I figured i'd ask you guys first since you're the resident T-Bird experts and all ;)
Also, if any of you guys would be interested in the bass, just let me know. I'm planning on getting a supporting membership and selling on here, just not sure if anyone would buy it. Thanks!

I have two winds on my G string with the Black Beauties. I want to say that I cut off some extra when I installed them, but I'm not positive about that.

You vill go to zee bassstringsonline.com. you vill register as a VIP mentioning you are a TB member. You vill save money and get service like you cannot believe. You vill be happy and never buy strings on eBay again. Zese are your orders, if you disobey, you vill be shot and sent to zee Eastern front.

Seriously now, Jason, a TB member runs bass strings online .com and gives TB'ers a discount. If you have questions, go to the thread in the strings section of TB. He's always there and answers questions quickly. Honestly, I screwed up an order from him and he treated me like it was his fault! If you have a problem with strings, it's not a problem, he will take care of you. His prices are really some of the best out there and if you can get cheaper elsewhere, tell him. He might like to know about that and help because he wants your business. I swear he knows exactly what length of string is needed for every bass ever made and what they're going to sound like. We are lucky to have him. Just outstanding.

Just go over to the thread and ask him what you should try to get the sound you want.

That is all. :)

"zee" and "Vill"...."eastern front"...hahahah!!

Hey thanks for the advice...Will check him out and see whats what.
