Hi everybody,

Okay so i haven't played my bird in 3 weeks cause the three point is causing me a bit of string trouble. I cant actually have all strings tuned EADG without the right post popping back up. So i was thinking, maybe having a stop bar bridge behind the 3point just like old birds had. But those things are hard to find on their own. I saw warwick and hipshot and of course old thunderbird 63-69 period tailpieces. Only question is, which is better? I like warwick very much. I've never tired a pre 69 bird nor have ever seen a bass with hipshot bridge at my local dealer.

Note: All i want is the tailpiece since i'm going to keep the 3 point bridge all i'd want is a tail piece behind so the tension of the strings is on the tailpiece and not the 3 point.

let me know what you guys think and btw my many mods are coming slowly but surely. I should have this bird playing and looking good before the new year. :hyper:

Ever consider the Hipshot Supertone? Best thing I did to my Epi Tbird. Thinking about changing the tuners but not sure what size I need and and if they are really worth changing.

Another option could be to have the strings run thru the body like on the RD's and IIRC the Burny Birds are setup that way.

I forgot about Hipshot making two piece bridges. If you could just buy the tailpiece then that should work.

Are you leaving all black hardware on the Goth when you rebuild it?

All the hardware is going to be black yes. Except for the new jack output which will be placed on the bottom like gibson. it's a chrome telecaster jack plate, other than white speed knobs which i shall splatter red paint on, the rest of the bass is all black.

Are you using the original pickups or replacing them?

For now original pickups. I found some gibson pups on the bay but 150$ each and i dont have the money anymore. so that shall go for another time

Ever consider the Hipshot Supertone?

I have, but i don't really like how it looks on the bass. It seems like it takes up more room on the body than the 3 point. Anywho, it might just be me too. But i want to keep the 3 point bridge and just add a tailpiece

Thinking about changing the tuners but not sure what size I need and and if they are really worth changing.

Hipshot ultralites 3/8 to be exact. Most bird players use these when they switch the stock ones out. U can have either the clover style or the smaller keys (like the stocks on epiphone). you can search the previous club pt. II stiles72 has the clover style ultralites on his bird

Another option could be to have the strings run thru the body like on the RD's and IIRC the Burny Birds are setup that way.

It looks cool but i don't want a string through bird. I'd rather have rd's, rippers, grabbers etc, anything else strung through but not birds. Not for me xd

If you could just buy the tailpiece then that should work.

Yeah i think i might just go with the hipshot tailpiece. That seems like the best way I hope i can just get the tailpiece thats all i need.

So there!

# 226 is all yours good sir :hyper:

We'd all love a pic of the rebuilt bass when you get the chance. Mike's THE MAN when it comes to a set up on a T Bird, plus you always get the "Rock Star" treatment at the shop.

Hey all! some beautiful birds here.

I am in the process of paying and receiving a custom Gibson Tbird, owned and played by Nine Inch Nails' Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
Can't wait!!!

Will post pictures once it's in my hands.

Ah yes.
The Pelham Blue one that has the chrome pickups. A beauty!
We'll make you #227, but only if you promise to share lots of pics of JMJ's 'Bird here :bassist:

Oooo, im guessing you know more about this bass than I do :P
I was in the market for a bird a earlier this year, but got a Sadowsky....but then this bass showed itself to me, for the second time!!! what are the odds...so i had to spend the last of my money on it:P

I promise many pictures if you share some info that I might not know? I think the pickups are custom made from japan?

I am excited to hear that baby through the SVT VR and berg 610, im sure it will be quite a growl.

JMJ himself had some questions of members of the old Dudepit Forum when he was putting that 'Bird together. The pickups are from Orville (Gibson Japan) they are very nice! (I have an Orville and think it's a fantasic Thunderbird.) The bass itself is a Gibson custom painted and modified with a Bassass bridge as well.

Awesome! yeah im glad it is a badass bridge, i am more familiar with them over the gibson one! How do the orville pickups compare to the mike lull ones? from reading this thread i hear they are quite awesome...
Cheers! i feel quite lucky to be getting a bass with some history

I am now the proud owner of an Epiphone Thunderbird IV!! :smug: I will grab a photo of it soon

Haven't had a chance to try it through the ABM 900 and 810 cab yet, but it will get a good test at the weekend ;)

Okay! You're #228 on the roster above - We demand pics! :hyper:

I think I've seen that bass before.........Pretty rare 'Bird, might have to watch that!
