it's weird to see gene with a bird. its not his type of bass (imo and in my imagination 
) But it does sound cool. Still like his jackson axe the best. And his custom lebau bass....and the spector.

In '77 I saw KISS in Buffalo NY, the black Thunderbird with the Dimarzio Model One and mirrored pg was his back up onstage, it go no playing time as I remember.

Just picked this short scale up yesterday:
Feels great, sounds great. I had a chance to play it with my band yesterday and it really worked for the stuff we do, classic rock/alternative influenced originals and classic rock covers. Sat in the mix very well, punchy and full. Didn't sound like a short scale. I have some DR Hi-Beams on the way for it, I think they'll sound great.
I have two '76 Thunderbirds, but don't play them much anymore. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and the long reach on the long scale Tbirds bothers me now. This one hangs with the first fret right about where it would be on a Fender style long scale instead of farther to the left, and the short scale is easier on my fingers too. This bass will get a lot of playing time.
People say a lot about the quality control at Gibson these days, but this one is very well made. The fretwork and nut were perfect. No flaws that I can find. The only thing I found wrong with it is that the strings were poorly installed. The G string only had 1/2 turn around the post and the D string only had one turn. But since I'm not planning on keeping the stock strings that doesn't really matter much.

Okay so i haven't played my bird in 3 weeks cause the three point is causing me a bit of string trouble. I cant actually have all strings tuned EADG without the right post popping back up. So i was thinking, maybe having a stop bar bridge behind the 3point just like old birds had. But those things are hard to find on their own. I saw warwick and hipshot and of course old thunderbird 63-69 period tailpieces. Only question is, which is better? I like warwick very much. I've never tired a pre 69 bird nor have ever seen a bass with hipshot bridge at my local dealer.
Note: All i want is the tailpiece since i'm going to keep the 3 point bridge all i'd want is a tail piece behind so the tension of the strings is on the tailpiece and not the 3 point.
let me know what you guys think and btw my many mods are coming slowly but surely. I should have this bird playing and looking good before the new year.

Are you leaving all black hardware on the Goth when you rebuild it? The only tailpieces that I've seen on Ebay or other sites I've checked are either chrome or gold. Maybe someone can point you towards a black one that I haven't found.

The only time I can recall seeing a black tailpiece is on '90s era Greco's - Rare enough!
There's a guy out of Chicago selling BaCH two point T Bird bridges/tailpieces on ebay, they're chrome but at least not too expensive.
