Does anyone have any idea what the Greco pups are wound to? They seem to have such a high output, even compared to say the Horseshoe pickup on my Ric. Way louder than any of my other basses.
copper plate to hold individual string mutes. What's between the bridge and bridge pickup?
Thee reason they're so hot is the magnets, big ceramic SOBs. Take one apart and you'll see.Does anyone have any idea what the Greco pups are wound to? They seem to have such a high output, even compared to say the Horseshoe pickup on my Ric. Way louder than any of my other basses.
Was that a standard item/option, can't say as I've ever seen anything like that before, a bit of sponge under the strings yes but never a dedicated platecopper plate to hold individual string mutes.

Not sure although I would tend to believe I have a thinner one. What it the thickness of yours?
How would one go about finding a reputable Luthier in the states? I would like to find one in the Chicago area. Google hasn't been a lot of help on this.
I do like that Explorer bass. Wow.Don't you just hate it - For a minute I thought I was GAS free, and then these guys comes along:

A shame they didn't add a Moderne and a Fire/Thunderbird to the collection...
Back at you, with a seriously off-topic response. I have no sound advice for you here but I love this song and have always been befuddled by the same observation you have made. Here he is in concert, with THREE guitarists and at least two keyboardists. If you look closely (at 4:13/4:14 mark), it appears that one of the guitar players (guy far stage/screen right) is using an EBow (not the cat with the Strat or cool dude with the red gibson, who is playing the haunting background riff). I am not exactly sure who is making what sounds. But as he notes at the end, this is a powerful (and stylized) rendition of this arguably ageless tune.Seriously off topic but still music related (and I'm happy to take offline). Anyone know anything, or know someone who knows something, about modular synthesis? I have an EMS Synthi emulator app, ie the box Brian Eno used to make noises on the Bowie album/song Heroes. I'm looking to recreate the chittering, helicoptering white (-ish) noise in the background. Dunno why they couldn't have used stringed instruments like normal people.

I have three of these at the moment , certainly the closest commercially available to the real deal IMHO and for the price you can't beat them. Congratulations !View attachment 980684 View attachment 980685 View attachment 980686 View attachment 980687 View attachment 980688 IT'S HERE and sounds beautiful. Needs a little cleaning up and the tone knob needs some tlc. Now i will be needing(wanting) to find a quality luthier to fix the fix on the neck.
