Thunderbird Club

If I only brew one case at a time does that make it limited edition? :wacky:

In any genre/era, there is a lot of dreck and some real gems. As time passes we remember and celebrate the gems and let the sands of time cover over the dreck. As kids now listen to 'classic rock' they are listening from anything from late 60s/early 70s through to about 2000. In 20 years we forget about a lot of crappy music...
Suzi mentioned that many younger kids were discovering 60s and 70s rock, and asks where they run into this music and they all mention how great Youtube is. So there is that as a redeeming quality.

There's a Twisted Sister documentary called “We Are Twisted F*cking Sister!” that's pretty great. Even if you're not a fan. I know it's available off Amazon Prime.
What the guitarist said was good and insightful. I liked his comments. Seemed like the kind of person that would be interesting to chat with. The part I didn't care for was clips from concerts showing Dee walking around talking (yelling) at/to the crowd. All that seemed kind of pointless to include.

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope everyone has had a good week. Glad to say Friday is almost here. Just got home from the Paul McCartney concert and had a great time. Difficult to imagine, but he has started his Got Back tour with an opening night in Spokane. Great local story of his tour manager visiting, and apparently picking Spokane over Portland and Boise to kick things off. Absolutely great concert, that ran just shy of three hours. Paul is in great form, and put on a wonderful show. His band includes Abe Laboriel Jr on drums, as well as horns, two guitarists, and a keyboard/multi instrumentalist. Paul played his signature Hofner most of the evening, but two Les Paul's, mandolin, ukulele, as well as piano. He had kind words and love for George and John, and did a sort duet with John on screen for I've Got a Feeling. He shared a few stories from his past, including a bit about Hendrix. He even played a respectable cover of Foxey Lady. He was very engaged with the audience the entire evening. I encourage anyone who enjoys the Beatles or Wings to catch his concert if he comes your way.
Happy Friday everyone, I hope you have a good weekend.

I saw him here in Lima 4 or 5 years ago, great concert.

I know Will had mentioned that'd be the only Peg he'd consider.
A B-18 would be a choice for me as well as the B-15.

I've got several of those old Ampegs including a B-18, a B-15S (60 watt portaflex) and this one, 1959 Bassamp 835. I don't have any pictures of the first two but here's the Bassamp, this thing really sounds good. 35 watts.

Ok I have dismantled my NR 7enderBird. (Too clunky) may try again later with some other mods or a short scale neck… headless?

My DCBird body is in town to be delivered tomorrow.

parts gathered, two necks to choose from, lead pu t-bird pickup from a 21NR with trim ring, gotoh 201 bridge.

I also have a badass II bridge and a kickass bridge too. Hate the kickass bridge, like more than prog rock.

7ender or Marshall amp knobs? I tend to use Marshall knobs if I have a blend in the mix, so probably 7ender knobs.

The squirrel neck is a full pound lighter than the smellycaster neck, we shall see what balances with the body.

the colour has been decided by a full can of gold spray paint that was found in the garage…. But I’m sure it will look green in pictures. But at the very least a matching headstock….

I think I still have a nos 6sl7 tube from my old fliptop B15 if anyone is looking. I had a 64? With Altec upgrade from factory. I think that's what it was. Sounded amazing. I threw a Hartke 15 under it and wow what a sound.

I'm lazy and just like "right clicking" to copy the image as before. I can always see the images and have never had any indication of a problem until it was mentioned. The funny thing is, I can see the image just fine in the "reply" of someone saying they can't see it. That may be related to the image data already being present on my Macbook. But that's just an uneducated guess.

That's how I always do it and never have any trouble.

Attended a great show last night here in SF. Friend & ex-Bong Girl lead guitarist Andy had comp tix for RAIN - A Beatles Tribute. He knows the head production manager (also named Andy) for the touring show, which wrapped up its 3 month/6 nights a week run last night. Basically a live concert of Beatles songs with cool stage media, period costumes (like the cool satin Sgt Peppers kit) and of course period specific guitars/basses. The "pre-fab" ;) four didn't look so much like the Beatles, although the Paul guy (would he be considered a "Faul" :D) looked more like Paul. All crazy talented players/singers - they nailed every era and song. Aside from the obvious nostalgia angle (packed theater - average age 50's-60's) what I came away from it with is that I attended a live concert of "the Beatles" with great sound quality and performances - like, that didn't happen in real life! (poor stadium sound-screaming girls)

The Paul character played left handed bass (a couple different Hofner's and the Paul painted Ric) and when he did a solo Yesterday - he played a right handed acoustic guitar. (!) We asked P Andy what was going on and he said he is a right-handed guitarist (wait for it...) who learned to play left handed bass for the gig!!! As anyone who has studied PM's bass-lines knows, they are not 'easy'. PM is like a lead-player, always melodically outlining the song while establishing the needed root notes - more like a jazz bassist. On top of that, the Paul guy had the PM body-language and great singing chops to complete the picture. They were all good - but he really stood out for me. In that way he was like the real Paul as he really stood out as a performer, more than the rest IMHO. (guitarists would probably debate that...)

This is from a 2019 RAIN tour - pretty much the show I attended all the way around -

(not sure where Part 2 is...

I saw a well known Beatle tribute band years ago, they were well known but I forgot the name, anyway Ringo had the head bobs down so well he was Ringo, it was kind of amazing.

My Precision is wide and flat. It is also thin front to back. 7ender road-kill flat. I prefer some heft. That is the complaint with that bass, for me anyway.

Thunderbuckers are still languishing in my basement office waiting for me to yank the thumbs out and put 'em into the Flamingo. So no Thunderbuckers to play with and compare. Veronica endorses Lull pickups so those are the aftermarket pickups she uses anyway.

The other joker in the deck aside from strings is putting the hot pickup at the neck and using the bridge pickup as a modifier or minor balancer, as I typically do.

I prefer Jazz necks to Precision necks, in fact I just ordered a new Jazz neck for my Precision P/J and it's got a black matching headstock, that's a plus. The original neck is nice, it's a compound neck, 7.25" to 12" but my Jazz feels so much better when I pick it up that I finally bought the Jazz for the Precision.
My TF Precision P/J fretless neck is nice, it's 1 5/8th but feels more like a J neck for some reason, having no frets makes it feel less deep though.

It depends on the version of the P bass. I’ve got a Deluxe Precision Bass Special (they’ve called them different names over time) with a J neck. A MIM Standard I have has a 1.625 nut and a 9.5 radius. They call it a modern c shaped neck. Not really like a baseball bat. A more traditional P neck has a standard c shape with a 7.5 radius and a 1.75; noticeably rounder.

All regular Precisions are 9.5" radius with 1 5/8ths neck unless they're reissue basses or special in some way I'm pretty sure.
