Yup, they were not the same! The logical thing to do would be to set up another GTG in the future so the differences can be examined in depth after the consumption of Scotch and/or beer.

If stupid Gibson money isn't in the cards, a Greco is hard to beat as a great substitute.

It's not laminated so while I don't know what kind of wood it is, Maple seems a reasonable guess.

I read somewhere that the idea was to replicate the 60’s Gibson except for a sturdier neck, wider at the nut and made of maple.

I'd say they did a great job, tho I like the skinny, fine neck of my '64 a lot better. Still, the Greco is an amazing bass, for my $$$ easily the best second banana to the real deal because that pickup is incredible.

Seems like a great compromise would be to take the Greco's pickups out and put them in a modern Gibson.
