Thunderbird Club

While on Xmas things, this was a story in Oz a couple of days ago. Tiger Snakes are a very serious snake- usually listed in the 10 most deadly in the world.

It's about time to change the strings on my Bird. Like a few of you have mentioned, I'm not a Stainless guy either. I've always gravitated to nickel rounds as my default with the exception of my Stingray basses, which always get DR Black Beauties to tame the top end. I'm kinda thinking of going that route on my Gibson bird as well, not so much to tame the top end but more to compensate for my poor left hand technique. Anyone else try DRs on their Bird?

I use DR Black Beauties on several of my basses, and then DR Highbeams on a few others. I really like DR's and have used them for a long time. I think the coating on the color strings helps "tame" the brightness of the strings and reduces "zing" for lack of a better word.

I just installed the Peacock Blue version on my black Hamer FBIV and those are a great string for those pickups as well.

There are other brands loaded on some of my basses and I have been wanting to pick up some Smith Rockmasters like I used in the old days (mid-80's to early 90's) to see if they sound as good as my memory tells me they did.

Yeah I 'm not one to 'just brush the strings' lightly. I started out on one channel of a 75w Bassman clone and when the guitarist in the other channel was doing his feedback pyrotechnics my bass dropped right off, which led to me smashing the strings, which became my style. I remember some 'musos' patronising the 'girlie' because 'you don't have to play it that hard dear'. Well y'know, if you want explosive attack, yes you do, so fvck right off back to your clubhouse and play your MOR schlock some more mate.

It's funny how memories pop up - just remembered a radio program on the local AOR, which the presenter devoted to calumnising all these terrible new young bands writing their own songs, when they should be playing covers.

Ah, the 80s - it was like another world.

Hi Kat,
How does that work? I have an Eminar tubey with two channels. Glen from RockDog told me no. 1 is optimised for Bass, no. 2 for Guitar although I could use a mic through it to practice.
So, both channel sounds go through to the one cab?

The SG is long scale (at least the ones I have played are), but it *feels* shorter than the Bird.

I promised him indoors that I would have no more than three basses. He's right, there's not a lot of space to put them.

So if I have the Epi and an NRBird there's only room for one more ... which is the Italia or an Epi SG. The Italia is a pain in the arse in some ways - needs XL strings, has to be run with onboard-pre bass dimed and treble rolled all the way off to sound anything like a proper bass, the rosewood piezo bridge can't be intonated properly., etc.

Well, if I use my wife's logic - 3 is the same as 4.

To explain: when we were considering having a 3rd child, she explained to me that 3 is just the same as 4. So we may as well just have 4, and so....

We have 4 children. :)

I have DR High Beams on my Goth. Only because I happened to have some on hand when I was stringing it up.
I loved the sound of it then, and still do. So I guess whenever new strings are needed I'll just put some of the same back on.
But I don't play at anything like the volume and intensity of most of you. So I can't say my experience would be that useful. :)

Yeah, was both channels into a 212. The guitarist soon bought a (horrible) combo, leaving me with all 75 watts until I had my own amp. As far as I remember both channels were identical.

Remember the AC30 was designed as the amplification for an entire beat combo.

You wouldn't be you without those experiences, though. Do you like the person you are now?
I like me but that's not the issue, I shaging hate what she has done to my daughter and grandchildren,3 young lives completely screwed up because of her toxic mind. The only good outcome of that is that my grandchildren have been taken into care and my daughter has finally managed to get away from her and hopefully make a start putting her life back together. Actually if I could go back in time I would give myself then a cast iron alibi and kill the bloody woman!!

Wouldn't your daughter and grandchildren not exist, though? Unless she's not your daughter's mother.
