Thunderbird Club

I am pretty sure that our Queen has fondled my bird

Indeed I have!
It was along side mine at Mike's shop, it progressed a bit faster as it was the prototype, there are some differences in it's shape compared to mine. Both are different in some dimensions than later ones.

How's the balance Michael? I haven't stood up with the ones I've tried but they didn't strike me as overly neck divey. The bodies are super resonant.

It dives... At least with the three straps I had at home it does - Haven't yet used it in a live setting...

With a regular nylon strap it plunges to the floor at soon as I let go of it - The same with a wide nylon strap.

With a leather strap (without suede backing) it dives as well - But not as fast as with the nylon straps.

I suppose a wide strap with either suede backing or some other kind of "grippy" surface would help a lot, and maybe moving the strap buttons as well - Mine has them behind the neck I (like a Thunderbird neckthrough) and at the end of the body, centered behind the bridge.

Since I often play my basses in horizontal position, I don't expect to be bothered by the neck dive. Also the bass is very light and has great action - So playability is no issue.

....finally got this one.....66 NR.....no more GAS....

Hi, guys, girls and our one and only Queen.

Long time no see. Stumbled across the thread in my search of the right tuners and well I just had to check in to wish all of you a merry christmas.

Got a new job during the summer and had absolutely no time aside from work and playing some bass, but it helps to save up some money for more basses and gear.

Thinking about getting a GK 550 Fusion in the next few months, not 100% sure as I have to order it from Germany, but reviews seem to be nice and I can send it back within a month.

Here's my birdcollage, to re-activate my membership :P :

You chose to live here Kat, I arrived by chance - should I say luck?

In a way I'm here by chance as well. Australia was a stop off on the way to the UK. The warm weather, thunderstorms and garage rock were so distracting it took me around 20 years to get to my intended destination. After a few years of miserable Scottish weather, enough was enough and I came back.

Yes its true , our weather is absolute pants ! Right now its 2 degrees , pouring icy cold rain and blowing a gale . Good weather for staying in and playing bass

Did Fender ever do a Bassman PreAmp DI pedal?
I hear about the "Fender Tone Stack", it seems something they would utilise or monetise.

This is the only Bassman pedal I am aware of, but then again I honestly never looked for one. Not a DI pedal tho. I agree with you that it does seem like that would be something they would try to sell on the bass market.

Boss FBM-1 Fender Bassman Overdrive Pedal

On the Hartke Bass Attack DI they had a setting for a Bassman sound, which was the setting I actually used when I owned that pedal. I used to own a Trace Elliot V-Type preamp and the 300H model head. Those had a "Fender Tone Stack" style knob I believe. But those heads sound great anyhow IMO whether or not you are trying to get a Bassman setting out of it.

They're pricey, but they long long enough to more than make up for it.
Whoa, that is pricey. What do they sound like, in comparison to the XLs, since you've used both? Also do they only come in that one set of gauges?

Wouldn't want it for bass, personally. For guitar, that would be cool. Most tube guitar amps use some variation of the Fender tone stack already, though.

Kat - The Eppi EB3 SG is a 34" scale. Every one I've tried was neck heavy, fine sitting but a diver when standing with a strap. The one I'd recommend is the shorter scale Gibson SG which was discontinued a year or two ago. There are plenty of mint used ones on Reverb in the $500 to $1000 bracket. Not sure how easy it is to come across one in your corner of the world.

There was the Fender TBP-1, obviously not a pedal.

Yeah, I just figured they want to fight the VT and SCR style devices.

I use the Bassman emulation in my Zoom B2.1 ; though I go through patches when I prefer the B15 or SVT emulation. I like the Acoustic 360 as well.
But generally for what I do, the Bassmsn seems my favourite.

I'm not keen on short scale instruments and it's unlikely one would come up here anyway.
