Thunderbird Club

We’ve done Rain Drops. It was a hit locally for John Farnham when I was about 10yo.

I just remember getting ready for school and Rain Drops, Bridge Over Troubled Water, (and any Neil Diamond from the early 70s) would be on the radio every morning. I already didn't want to go to school and then was tortured with those before leaving just to get the day off with a bang. There's another one that slips my mind as well. I'm pretty sure they are all that's played in hell to increase the misery. I can't believe I'm saying this, but give me Disco any day. At least it didn't make you want to find the nearest bridge or tall building.

Briefly test-drove one of'em G2 Thunderbirds on the lunch hour. Looks great, sounds great, weighs a ton and quite a beefy neck for my hands, so not for me. Beefy price tag to match.

Haven't seen one here tho ?

A similar memory I have is getting onto the bus for school (bus & train trip) and that stinkin’ Tie a Yellow Ribbon was on, everyday, at the same time - a minute or so after I got on. I developed an aversion to that song :roflmao:
that persists to this day. I think it was the sheer repetition day after day for such a long time.

No offence intended to any Tony Orlando & Dawn fans we have amongst us.

That's really interesting - what is the body wood? What year was it made? I mean, it has a Schaller 3D bridge, but what do you feel makes it sound exceptional? The pu's and/or their placement? It's bitchin' looking, but why do you think is sounds so good? (honestly asking) I have a friend who loves his Hamer guitar.

@JIO I was mistaken about the woods on the Blitz bass. It has a mahogany body & neck, not a maple neck. I was confusing it with my 86 FBIV basses. Those have maple necks.

As we T-bird/Gibson fans know - mahogany is a very tone-full wood! :bassist:

That one got a lot of airtime as well. I got tired of it, but it didn't suck all all the dopamine and serotonin out like those mentioned above.

Just thinking about those songs is making me need to listen to this to clear my head.

This is my favorite Phish.

Hah! I remember the "shreds" vids! Here's another from back when they were big! Interestingly enough - it lays bare the difference between mere mortals playing (even on the same bass) from a gifted phenom like Jaco was. It's only funny if you are fully aware of his other-world talent.

And to remind anyone who is unaware of his immense talent - this is from his 1st tour with Weather Report, of which I was lucky enough to be in the audience. (not this show specifically, but this tour) Regardless of how you feel about WR or Jaco - note his insane ability to groove w/o missing a beat while holding down "the one", no matter how he strays from it - playing a fretless! And Jaco wasn't "all about flash", although he could pull that off - because Austrian Joe Zawinul was a bass player in his early days and was very hard on any bass-player who he brought into his band. Jaco was every bit as talented/gifted as someone like jazz piano virtuoso Oscar Peterson, but IMO far more interesting as a player and personality musically and dynamically as a performer. Oscar Petersons extrapolations put me asleep. Jaco? never - he was a groove-machine.

We have at least one owner here as I recall and at least one other on the FB Thunderbird group, they are actually pretty well regarded from what I've read. The neck is likely similar to the 2021 Non Reverse and the long gone Studio models, heftier than the "Standard" Gibson Reverse but certainly not a Log. :)
FWIW I think more modern pickups sound pretty good in a set neck bass like these.

I'm really curious how well those and the Rex Browns are selling. I don't think I'd be interested in a GS one because of the neck, but he said in interviews that left-handed ones, and flying V's, were coming out. I wonder if we'll see any of that.

You're diving experience should help in "holding yer breath". ;) But good luck.
