Thunderbird Club

Nothing wrong with an Explorer-shaped bass!! Here is my 1982 Hamer Blitz Bass. Hands down one of my best sounding basses.

That's really interesting - what is the body wood? What year was it made? I mean, it has a Schaller 3D bridge, but what do you feel makes it sound exceptional? The pu's and/or their placement? It's bitchin' looking, but why do you think is sounds so good? (honestly asking) I have a friend who loves his Hamer guitar.

Has anyone tried Ibanez strings? Opinions?

I've not used Ibanez-branded strings, but I'm using factory strings from an Ibanez on my 5-string SR. Afaik, they're some variant of D'Addarios? Not sure if the branded ones are the same, but I would suspect so.

As for my opinion of them....I don't hate them, but I wouldn't buy a set over DRs or Rotosounds.

I know it's a few months old, but is this a CP, perhaps?

For Sale - Epiphone Thunderbird IV

Looks like it.....8 lbs. is really light, isn't it? Mine weighs a bit over 9.5 lbs......

I think I'm feeling kinda pointy ? Will I get tossed from the club if I buy this ? I'm also a sucker for a natural finish. Suckhaaaa !!!!View attachment 4895067
Those are surprisingly light.
I replaced the factory bridge on mine. The string spacing was too wide for the neck. This one from Allparts is adjustable.

I believe it's a 1982 model (Maybe 83) and its a mahogany body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The pickups are original Dimarzio PJ pickups, and that is definitely part of why it sounds as good as it does IMO. All hardware is Schaller, but before they started using Hamer-branded Schaller hardware. I am sure the combo of body woods and electronics all play a part in why it sounds as good as it does (Maybe the age of the wood as well?). Hard to say why, but it sounds great and feels similar to wearing a Bird when playing it.

My St Blues PJ bass has the same pickups and its another killer sounding bass.
