Bad Moon Rising - CCR
Owner of a Lonely Heart - Yes
I Wanna Be Sedated - Ramones

"Lonely Heart" might be a bit challenging for a trio.
That tune could maybe be done convincingly in the style of Free, or similar three-piece w/vox...
Our band is doing Middle of the Road, by the Pretenders, but we do it too slowly. That couldn't be resolved, because the guitarist didn't have that semi-ripping rhythmic riff together when we started learning it.
We ended up playing it at a slower tempo, and I changed the shape of the bass line because the anticipated figure became awkward to play... So I came up with a more downbeat, plodding version of it.
Now it sounds a bit like a garage/punk band with maturity! Lol. It's kind of fun! I think that to take this kind of liberty with a popular song can be a cool idea. Your still get the key melody, riffs, general arrangement and intent, but now it's *your version*.

Put some of your own stank on it!

All great songs!
Funny thing is, those songs are all about 50 years old and they still appeal to a large portion of the 25 and up crowd. Can you imagine being 25 years old and in a bar in the mid 1970’s and the band set list being all 50 year old songs from around 1925…

Doubt that would go over well.
Kinda speaks to the timeless well written and played music from the classic rock era 1965-1980.
