Thunderbird Club

I use the .73 too, they hold up pretty well but then I'll look at the one I've been using and it'll be all rounded off.......

Same happens to mine, when using .73...

The .88 standard nylon or .88 maxi-grip nylon holds up pretty well with wear and have a pretty nice firm grip to them without being overly stiff like the 1.0.

I use 1.14 dunlop tortex or ultex picks and occasionaly 1.25 ish vinyl picks. For some reason i dont get on with anything lighter than a 1.0, i must be heavy handed when i play ;)

No kidding!? They're 5mm thick at the point of contact with the strings?
I think it's 5.0 at its thickest…tapers a bit but still very thick at the tip.
Hard rubber but they have medium and soft, too.

Contoured for grip, too.
Might be half as thick at the tip.

No way to measure the one in my pocket where I am, but every bassist I show it to loves them. Dealer by me even started stocking them.

Interesting.... May have to try one out next time I see one.

I do occasionally also use a Dunlop Ultex Triangle .88 which is kinda nice as well.

This month(September) marks a year of progress learning bass. Haven't tried a pick to this point. Not sure I ever will.

never say never… playing w/a pick is a great expansion of ones tone/feel possibilities for any (primarily) finger player. A pick & palm-muteing (especially w/flats) =

We Americans aren't good with the metric system. [emoji12]

I think we'll all get behind the Metric system if it means we can have a 10 day (metric) weekend.

I would encourage you to try a pick...........Even at a moderate volume, a Thunderbird played with an authoritative pick has a voice that no other bass can come close to.

Whole new learning curve I'm sure. I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with my lessons as is without throwing in the mechanics of picking.

I bounce between single, double and three finger style depending on the pace required and which of the strings get played next. I really don't think about it and just do what feels natural. It's when I force myself to alternate that I make mistakes. Lol

I guess a pick would eliminate most of that unless you're still plucking with the three fingers not involved with the pick as I've seen guitar players do at times.

But I just have to ask, don't most of the greatest bassists just play with their fingers?

Playing with a pick feels natural to me as It's how I started learning to play, my finger style is pretty good almost on par with my pick playing but for me there's just something about the attack and dynamics of playing with a pick that I can't get with fingers. Having said that if the sound and feel of a song requires finger style then I'll use my fingers :)

Someone said something about this just the other day.
Some of the best rock bassists, at least, are pick men.

Member number 666 here... not trying to piss anyone off, just figured this was the most logical place for my need...
I need a plain-jane Epiphone Tbird pickup, and I only need one to fill a hole, so working condition doesn't matter. I've been running an active EMG MM pickup in neck position and an old Bartolini prototype pickup (not made for Tbird, but it fit so I dropped it in) in the bridge position, but the Bart is getting buried under the EMG's huge tone, so I'm pulling the Bart and getting rid of it. I already sold the stock Epi goth pups that were in there, so if anyone has a junker just laying around, message me with a price. Cosmetics don't matter... it'll end up green anyway. Thanks!
