Practicing in my garage with one of my VP’s, looking and my other VP, next to my two Gibby’s, and marveling at the size of the VP headstock, realizing, since I technically live behind a levee, below sea level, and about 1/8 mile from the entire SF bay, it’s a good thing that headstock is so huge, because I don’t own a paddle…

Always have two VPs. One for the paddle and the other the boat! Bonus: The headstock can be seen from space so it's like a beacon.

Insane. Of course it's a full moon tonight. The SF police finally addressed the out-of-control anarchy that is my street in the Mission SF on the 4th of July. At 12:00am, they marched en-force spread out across the block in riot-gear down my street, right in front of our home. I clapped as they passed and was told to get inside. (!) Followed by a fleet of motorcycle cops. They are currently blocking off our street from traffic - but I can still hear fireworks in the adjacent hood to the north and west. Other than Jeff and possible someone else - you guys don't know what it's like living in the heart of a city. Maybe you did at one point - but I'll guess it's much worse now. (still hearing bombs as I type) Beth took Mona to a friend's place away from this epicenter - I stayed to guard the house from vandal's. People walking by saw me standing in front of our window and waved, like I enjoyed my neighborhood being turned into a war-zone. I hate f-ing social media as every loser walking by was filming the chaos. At one point I felt like walking outside and friendly-like asking where they were from? Burlingame?.. so how would you like if this went on on your block? You would like it? That's a lie - you'd hate it. But ya'know, I don't care to get shot, even though most of these tourist losers are harmless. (more fireworks to the west - the Mission "culture" on full display) Oh yah, 'out of the area' people - I can't wait to move from this "cultural" hell-hole.

That's beyond crazy. I've always heard of the Mission area and figured it was a really cool place to be. Maybe that's changed. I hear you with respect to anti-social media. Gives every moron attention they don't need or deserve and only encourages others to show up so they can post how cool they are. Really sorry to hear that, Geo.

In the Mission SF... guns would result ~ I have heard that the way to f-up someones car is to put a fish somewhere under the seat or somewhere similar. After being in there a while there's no way of getting that smell out. Better than putting a potato in the exhaust pipe... (more fireworks at 1:14 am)

Skunk scent is a great option. If you can keep from vomiting when you open it. Spray a good amount on the ground where you don't want people and people won't go there. Lasts for a day or so depending on how you mix it. Just can't use it too close to your house. I've used it to encourage people to not want to be in certain places and it works great since no one can stand to be where you spray it.

Wait for the Seattle crew to wake up and they’ll say about 800 miles north.

Maybe so! Like most big cities we're not without problems here, though the new mayor has done a good job about getting various parts of the city cleaned up, it will take time. Part of what is helping is that some companies are requiring their employees to come back to work 2-3 days a week so there's just more people around.

Not sure there is a West Coast urban area that is livable. Maybe BC.

My suburb (30min south of Vancouver) is "Pleasantville". The worst thing here is a tradition called Hell Night - night of the first day of school, teenagers get drunk, congegrate and march down the streets in a big noisy crowd. But they are easily dispersed by police.

With ya on all counts! Darn shame to see a city with so much to offer devolve into destructive chaos.

So, where would you move? Usually, once you get urban blood in your veins it’s hard to make a suburb transition.

Personally, one of my favorite areas of the Bay was always Sausalito. It’s close enough to the city you can still do the things you like, but far enough removed to be out of the chaos of downtown. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s quite the artsy place it used to be in the 1970’s. Pacifica is another nice place on the coast and just a quick jaunt over to Daily City.

Heading North of the Bay Area I really like Bodega Bay and it’s still pretty affordable, but quite a bit more rural than SF.

Heading south I’d take Carmel by the Sea or Carmel Highlands in a heartbeat and it still has the NorCal vibe going on.

Further South you start to get into the beginnings of the SoCal vibe, around Cambria and SLO. It’s a completely different world from NorCal.

have you been to Hollywood lately? smells like the Gents bathroom at an airport....

Thanks. I think in some ways it wasn't so bad at one time. There's a lot of reasons that all add up and the Covid period didn't help. In a case like last night, it's become an "event" destination which attracts people from all over. Most communities have a controlled 4th of July fireworks 'display' near a lake, or ocean, or rural area staged by that community. The Mission became this because that's what the Mission represents to many people; grafetti everywhere, trash everywhere, car break-ins everywhere - best there and not in my neighborhood. It's common to see a new car parked on the street up on blocks with all 4 wheels stollen. So the crowds who were there last night see the Mission as a gangland 'theme park' where chaos and lawlessness run wild. fun.

The city has been street-sweeping for the last hour. So they don't prevent it, stand around while it's happening - and we the taxpayers pay for the city's cleanup bill. We're talking thousands of dollars of firework debris. This year the police had a presence the whole night (that we're also paying for) but that encouraged people to come to be part of the action. And new this year - they contained it - to my block. Wonderful - good job SF, well done. Rant over -

Seattle has a lot of condos downtown esp. near Lake Union and it's very nice, my brother and his wife have a great place.
The view isn't bad either..

I know the great reputation Lull basses have but how do they compare to the real deal as far as sound quality and feel. I have not seen one in person yet but the body shape looks smaller.

The one bass I truly lust after these days is a Lull reverse 'Bird. I have three Gibsons, two Epiphones for now, and a P-Bird that's a Precision in all but shape, so I like Thunderbirds a lot. A Lull is a real a deal as they come. Blasphemy - I would take a Lull over a '64.
