Thunderbird Club

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this. My beat '66 Thunderbird II and my Hiwatt DR201 paired with a Hiwatt 2150. Aside from my band Knight Patrol I do the occasional sub gig. This past Sunday I filled the bass slot for local legends Wilkes Booth, known for their over the top presentation. The set list was full of classic rock and metal classics so no rehearsal just show up play and get paid. I had a riot just winging it. Pretty sloppy but it felt good at the time. The sound is very guitar heavy I would have liked to be more up in the mix but hey I'm just subbing. ;) Doing my best Jim Lea at around 1:30. As always my headstock is in the picture more than I am.

LOL!!!

No wonder the guitar player smashed his guitar - Obviously it had a faulty input-jack, since the lead kept falling out... :)

I would have done the same anytime... ;)

While smashing guitars is not my thing it's part of their show, Dave goes around buys cheapies to smash.

Is the gibson blackbird nut width 1.5? I'm researching and gathering as much information for a build in the works (not a thunderbird & for my dad: Gibson grabber to his specs). Just wondering cause that is one of his specifications without saying 1.5 width. He loved his blackbird when he had it. The monster power and the fact the neck didn't feel so long as well.

Without knowing for sure, I think it would be a safe bet to assume the Blackbird more or less has the same specs as the Nikki Sixx Mk II Thunderbird bass:

Anyway, now that you have a Goth for comparison to the Gibsons - Would you happen to know if those blank T-bird pickguards that he sells on Ebay fit the Epi as well as the Gibby? ;)

I'll be sure to check it out and post when I get home tonight. The Epi Goth is a 2012 and my Gibson Vintage Sunburst is a 2013. They look very close but I'll take my original PG and lay it on top of the Goth and let you know.

Thanks, but that's not necessary…I already have an extra one that I can't use.
Nice of you, though.

How about a 50% larger than original, white TBird vinyl? You can stick it just about anywhere that's smooth and clean. Just PM me your address and I'll put one in the mail for you. :)

Hold the press!!! I might like to get one of those for the car... :)

Please do get back regarding the pickguard size, as i have some modding plans, I'd like to do in near future...

They are very different. The Gibson PG does not conform to the Epi horn. Matter of fact the Epi PG doesn't conform to the Epi horn that well. Here's some pics.

Andii, the neck on the BlackBird is 1.5" at the nut. Same width and thickness as my other Gibson Birds.

Hi Guys,
So im new here and need some advice.
I bought my Thunderbird-proIV one mounth ago but it is already for the sell again for some reason.
The body!

I love the slim neck playing fast´n furios but the body is so damn big for me and kind of uncomfortable with heavey headstock.
Any advice?
Maybe re shaping the body some smaller?
Or are there some similar basses with the same slim neck and smaller bodys?

Hey Twil , my jazz bass has a slim neck close to my epi pro IV . It is a 92 jazz plus so it also has a smaller body than a regular J-bass. Food for thought. I also have a question for our resident bird expert . Mark, I was reading your review on your white Burny bird you got back in 2012. I'm gasin bad for a white passive bird , I'm trying to decide between the Epi classic in white or one of the other offerings in the same or close price range . Or just buy a used Gibson for under a grand and don't worry what color it is . Help me or stop me , that would be cheaper.
