…and might I add, has a serious kick a$$ set of pickups. They don’t do bright and glassy, but I was shocked at how well they did deep and sassy! I thought I was relatively GAS free but after trying Marshall’s Custom Shop (white Tbird with the black trim ring chrome guitar pickups) I’m pretty much sold. At the right time one of these and one of the new Rex Tbirds will join the flock here at the GBass household.
The Custom Shop you helped figure out that the cause of the static was a grounding issue with the jack and fixed, has the chrome pickups that are said to be guitar humbuckers. As you found, they have a very ballsy low end. They came on the TV Silver, White, and Silverburst Custom Shop IVs. The splrkling Pelham Blue, sparkling Candy Apple Red, and Ebony Custom shops have the normal Epi IV pickups. All desirable Thunderbirds.

Anybody here using a DOD 250? Just bought a clone or a version of it called ODD Overdrive Preamp 471. I use it as a booster to drive the always-on Digitech Tone Driver which provides my basic "lightly dirty" tone. On it's own the ODD sounds a bit too harsh to my liking but stacked with the Tone Driver it works very well.

I have a Spiral FX Yellow Spiral, which is based on the DOD 250 circuit. It's very bass-friendly and I think it sounds great, especially through the B-15. But it was determined that my Damnation Audio MBD was still best.

I think of those as bolt-on with better colors. They are different of course because the pickups are different. I always forget those. I have never actually seen one.
As mentioned above, three were available with the chrome pickups. The others are the regular pickups. The fretboards on the five I have, have better fret end finish work than my Goth or the standard IVs I’ve seen. And the tuners seem to be better, although that may be just tighter QC. Or I’ve been lucky.

OMG this thread is massive... I've been on it several times over the years but never noticed; I recently decided to read it all the way through (having just did that very same thing with the 'portaflex' thread), and thought "1300 pages, ok, that will take awhile..." NO! no no no no... 13 THOUSAND pages!!!!! LOL
Did you actually get through it all? Did any of us say anything worthwhile? Enquiring minds need to know.
