Thunderbird Club

The fellow on the far right..........Watch out for that guy!

He's a shifty devil!

Don't let him touch anything metal. His sweat eats pickup covers. :nailbiting:

Closest I saw to threading in that universe is the movie Yesterday.
Some scenes are absolutely surreal, like the one when the main character meets a totally different John Lennon than the one from his reality.
Gem of a movie.

Yes it’s good fun. I was slightly startled with that scene the first time through.

I was also very amused when he googled Oasis.

You're thinking of Jeff, Will's normal.........

For those that don't know, that's the Fremont Troll, a famous Seattle landmark.

I like '76 pickups a lot, to me they sound best when you can give them some volume, get the amp working a bit.
Were I looking for pickups today, I have to say that I'd buy the Gibson 2021 NR type, they sound great and are at a good price.
You and I are on the same page. I came up to the mountain today to be here when a HVAC guy shows. The heater won’t ignite. I brought the BaCH with the recently installed Gibson reissue to play through the SVT. As soon as the guy fixes the heater, I’ll be down there playing through the SVT. It’s 56 down in the basement now…my hands are freezing.

This is a bad idea for me, at least for fine detail....I'm lucky to be able to hear the difference in a semi-tone sometimes :(

Maybe? obviously, probably the easiest bass to set intonation on that I've owned is my multi-scale Ibanez.
All the way up to 24th on all five strings, easy-peasy
The ‘15 and the ‘13 NR are my two easiest to intonate basses. Both have Babicz bridges. I love the Babicz. The shorty and the ‘21 NR will be getting them soon enough.

I just use the tuner in my SansAmp board. Tune with harmonics, done.
I'm probably a little warped ears-wise, but I just don't want to think that much. I tend to get knotted up when I overthink. Keeping my head as empty as possible sounds crazy, but then I have room to think... :)

Haven't been noticeably out of tune yet.

I am reminded to go find a tuning fork in A440. I like using those...
I have had an A440 tuning fork on my bench since the 80'so_O

I wish I could do this, but, while sound is ultimately the most important, I really need all three, sound, feel and looks. I don’t want to own a bass that I can’t look at. This is why I’ll probably never own a NR (talk about a hill to die on….as I duck tomatoes being thrown my way). Im sure they are awesome sounding and fantastic playing basses, based on the love for them around here, but I really don’t like the way they look. Kind of like an amoeba lollipop.
In the same way I’m the kinda person that needs to like the look of a car or truck I drive.
I drive a 2010 Ford Transit Connect cargo van with a damaged plastic grill. It is generic white. I'm shallow in some ways. Other ways, not so much. It's like driving a high-top sneaker.

Once I discovered the sound and ergos of Thunderbirds, the looks were secondary. Now, the shallow thing is back in full force, and I like making them look the way I want them to look. But the sound and ergos came first by a mile.

I bought my '63 T-bird II in '74 from a pawn shop for $150 w/OHSC. I went tipped-off that there was a P-bass there. (probably an early '60s P but the concept of 'vintage' wasn't a big deal then, at least to me) When I got there it was gone and I looked at the basses hanging behind the counter (about 6-7) and asked to see the bird. I ended up buying it but only because I went there expecting to buy a bass and that one looked cool. Needless to say, I never regretted doing so and since it, and my '64 were my only bass for years - I bonded with T-birds warts and all.

Just arrived '64 II (w/both covers/mute, OHSC) in 1978. Still have it, still occasionally gig it.
