Thunderbird Club

I believe I mentioned it before. We should all have the Ampeg/Thunderbird tone as an option.
Thunderbirds and tubes go together nicely. My Ampeg tube head and the '64 are magical to my ear. Nothing like it. The '64 Epi (Nerdbird) isn't far behind. Not that others tonal options are not great to hear.

My ‘birds and Orange AD200B through just the one OBC 115 are very impressive sounding, and when I add the 210, it’s better (to me) than my SVT/810. The good old USA GE6550’s and now Mullard 12ax7’s in it don’t hurt either.

Hey folks, I'm reviewing the Clifton Thunderbird bass, and let's just say, it's been an interesting experience. As a tech journalist and a bass enthusiast, I always look forward to trying out new gear, but this one... well, it's a bit of a letdown.

I'm using my new setup with the Ampeg SCR-DI. The Clifton Thunderbird had the potential to be a solid choice for entry level bassists, but unfortunately, it falls short in several areas.

There are quite a few aspects that Clifton could have done better. I'll be going into detail about what works and what doesn't with this bass. Whether you're considering buying it or just curious about it, this review should give you a clear picture of what to expect.

Haven't got tubes in my amp but 5 pre amp tubes in total on my pedal board and the NR sounds sweet going into my Rumbles FX return :bassist:

That's a lot of issues for what appears to be a US$200 bass. I don't see it on their website, so maybe not fully released?

I'm not aware of them having a website but there is a totally different company called Clifton Guitarworks (which confused ne as well)

this Philippine based Clifton Guitars mainly sell on Lazada and Shopee (kinda like Aliexpress, popular in the Philippines). They are pretty popular for their seriously budget oriented guitars and basses selling for $100-200 range. You got the price right btw, this Thunderbird bass is around $200.

My philosophy is: More speakers equals more better sound. (I know that's not the correct way to word it.)
