Most of the bands I go see are from around here. Every so often I'll see a band doing a west coast tour, or, much more rarely, a USA tour. And most of them are bands I doubt anyone in here knows.International bands stopped playing the South Island (most of which has a population of one or fewer people per square kilometre) because it became too expensive to haul PAs and lights across Cook Strait. Usually there'd be a single gig in Auckland.
NZ is a long thin country and 'Dorkland' is long long way away (1000 miles) - a long way to go for a gig.
Here to Seattle is about 800 miles. There is Portland along the way, but that's about it.
