That pickguard on your Bird looks awesome. Where did you get it or was it already on the Bass?

For comparison, the 69 Camaro with driver in street trim is just below 3300

Mine will get weighed when it is done. I am expecting it to come in well over 3500. But I don't know yet.

Since the car thing is happening here I thought I would post a pic of my Mondello Olds 361. Joe built this for me personally almost 24 years ago. It's not much by today's standards but without any fancy parts it's 420/450 on paper. #7 heads bracket ported by Joe with back cut 1 piece valves, block decked 100 thou , intake ported by me and cut 100 to fit block. .512 lift Engle cam. 425 / 4.125 pistons at 9.5 compression , 403 race prepped rods with ARP bolts. Race prepped 350 crank. 7qt oil pan , double roller timing chain , everything balanced and blueprinted in full. Took over a year to build. I miss Joe he was a awesome person. Currently finishing up the front end upgrade/rebuild. A lot of UMI suspension parts. Body mounts upgraded to poly. Pro tour sway bar , front frame stiffener , etc. as far as you can go before going coil overs.photo of engine has factory upper control arms. Those were swapped for UMI uppers due to positive camber issue after taller ball joints were installed. Ended up with .50 lower and .50 upper ball joints and UMI upper control armsView attachment 5315923

When we were running Stock Eliminator for NHRA, our spec weight was 3270 with driver
That was with and all cast iron engine, 5 gallon tank, and only headers. This car does have a cage in it

Now with aluminum intake and heads, 18 gallon tank, and full exhaust.
Soon my trouble inspiring friend down the road will have his scales up. I'll get a positive number

for sure, runs like brand new too..as much as I dig that vintage styling, I prefer its fastback predecessor….

One of the few Cudas of that body that I like. That one looks great. Bet it's a screamer with a 383 in it.

We did. I have used the Thunderbolt Way on a couple of trips to & from Armidale.

A couple of my Mums ancestors had some contact with Ben Hall. He used to drink in the pub they had in Frogmore NSW because he knew they’d keep quiet. Probably a “children of convicts” code thing. Later a great uncle of Mums (same extended family) became known as “the last of the Bushrangers”, but only minor stuff.

It is likely some ‘63s were built at the end of ‘62 for the ‘63 model year. So you can get one and call it a birth year bass….start looking.

Or 61s might have been first sold in 62. Theory I used in buying by 2011, justified it as being my 50th birthday bass. Mind you I bought it years and years after.

It’s an acoustic guitar material with an adhesive backing from Luthier Mercantile, now out of business I think.
But when I got it, it looked completely different with the backing still on.
Was a totally different looking color.
But when all was said and done.
That’s what it actually looks like.
I’m not disappointed.
I had my tech do the shape from the PG that was in there.
The logo on there was commissioned and made by @Engle

Completed the first prototype 916 Thunderbird pickups. These are Alnico 5 with Neodymium. We do a lot of magnet mixing and wanted to try and boost the Thunderbird tone with Neos first. These will get ran threw the paces soon to see how they sound. This pickup has standard size magnets to allow for any Alnico desired 2-8 and or Ceramic if looking for DC / Lane Poors tone. Next up designs using a factory cover. Factory original A5 reproduction is available anytime

Shoutout to Jeff, I picked up a second Ashly SC-40 from him and now have it all racked up for tracking to get all Geddy on songs. His already had a switch added to the front, ostensibly to select input and send it directly to the PA line out, so I reverted the inputs to stock, and then wired the switch to a pair of parallel diodes for distortion, per the tip in the original Ashly manual. Now instead of having to plug and unplug a jack to the effects send, I can just flip a switch on the faceplate. The other one still needs some work, getting low output and no gain from it currently, but one step closer to Moving Pictures.

On a bass note, I'm surprised Tokai doesn't appeared to have dipped the waters in doing a take on the Thunderbird until 2000 with a made in China TB78. Unless I missed it.

The only thing that would have been called hood would be the folding roof over carriages and then early carriage built cars.
But we just say top now. “It’s raining, put the top up”. Etc.
