Thunderbird Club

are those 9 or 18 volt?
They are 9v, but the newish M series are 18. I had a Tribute but thought is was terribly bland sounding. Hard to achieve with an L series. The M series also had redesigned pickups. I kept if a few months and moved it on. Had a blend knob which I always thought was something missing on the L2ks since there was just one vol knob.

I've heard the new L2k series was different but I was unaware it is now 18v. I have no 'wants' with the 9v system - not sure how 18v would make it "better".

Probably also built bombers in the 40s.

Thank you. I hardly ever use active as it just doesn't do anything I need. I will use it if I need a quick boost or clarity, but that's about it and rare. I much prefer passive. I've not had gain issues, I guess because I'm not smart enough to get complicated with amps and the like. In fact, even when using one of the G&Ls I generally don't even adjust anything on the amp. But they have such power, even in passive I can see where they are either loved or hated. They can be so aggressive I'm shocked they are not more common in harder rock or metal--other than none have "flamboyant" shapes. If someone wants to drive the heck out of an amp or pedal or "cut through" any mix--G&L is your friend. My other two L2ks are more naturally aggressive sounding, the '81 is more sweet and no work required to tame anything if that is desired. Almost a different kind of bass in some ways. Age and Mahogany? I would love to play one of the reissues it see how well they replicate what their predecessors did.

The early G&L's are different in a number of ways from later models including electronics. Refinements over the years. Mahogany will promote a warmer tone/sound - my T2K MkII is ash and is pretty even tonally.

If it's wired +9V you would have twice the headroom biased to a stable 0V. Typically, the 18V power supply increases the S/N ratio too. I haven't seen the schematic so this is just general Low Voltage operation information.

Not versed in what another battery offers. I owned both 18v & 9v Kubicki Factors and the 18v had another passive setting over the 9v version. 5 clicks (two active/two passive) + off vs 4 clicks (two active/1 passive) + off. Otherwise they seemed pretty much the same.

Having never used it, not sure how to measure that. So, I rubbed a fret with the corner of the cloth and it turned black. The cloth that is.
If it's dry, it won't moisturize the fretboard. The fret cleaner aspect will still work fine. There was a way to rehydrate the cloth, but I didn't need to know it then and don't recall what it was.

I haven't heard that the new L series has changed to 18v. But I haven't looked. It's the M series that went with the 18v pre as far as I know. Anyone, please correct if I'm wrong.

Was this a pedal or a built-in guitar pre-amp? Just curious. Through a guitar amp live you probably wouldn't hear much of a difference. In a recording studio the better S/N Ratio would potentially be better for a cleaner recording.

say what? I didn’t know you could have AAA come out and do that.

Had AAA for years never used them much.

Up and running for the next 5 years.

until the next thing breaks.

TV up and running too. I didn’t want to spend Sony money on a brain melting TV.

the Hisense seems to be fine so far, the Samsung was 7-10 years old. I had a sound bar on it and I didn’t feel like hooking it back up and the new tv sounds fine.
What does a car battery cost now? Last time I bought one about 2 years ago it was ~ $189.00 for the platinum 5 year warranty. I figure they cost a little more now.

Oh, I see - I mistook it for the L series... my bad. I've never played one.

How should I test?
You will have to send it to me.

Or....you can wipe it on a small section of a fretboard, and it should darken it a bit as it puts a little moisture back onto it. The cloth should have a slight dampness to it as opposed to very dry like a plain cloth.

The reason I asked was the last time I bought some from ebay it was dried out, and much have been sitting a good while. I believe it was the older version that had a coconut smell. Likely had coconut oil in it to some degree. I know it is used to condition leather by some polish makers.

I’m going with dry. Smells like a nut oil slightly. But, all it did was leave a white residue on the fretboard. I buffed it out and didn’t notice any improvement.
