Thunderbird Club

Ale... I was just having a Double Dry Hopped Double Mosaic Dream from Other Half, which is my local brewery and one of the best in the US. So good.

My unbroken pair of '64s have different neck profiles although the widths are similar. The IV is chunky and the II is thin. I prefer the chunky neck. It's similar to a 70s Jazz.

Since TBirds were 'bench made' they varied in woodworking and neck profile. The sunbursts also varied depending on who was applying the translucent toner.

A Bicentennial has the same size headstock as a '60s. The raised part is black plastic on the Bicen (even on the white ones). It's routed into the headstock blank and painted on the 60s. More work...

Wow - laminated plastic raised section... ??? having not actually played one (I remember them new in shops then) I wouldn't have guessed. Interesting that the depth of the necks vary so much on the '63-'65 T-birds - my '64 must be one of the less chunky ones, which is what I love about it. The closest neck (feel) to it I've played since is a 24 fret carbon fiber Peavey B-Quad (1.5" @ the nut) I like chunky too, but prefer slim. :bassist:

Question for you all.....I'm looking to get a custom pick guard made for my Goth TBird (I'm looking to go with a black pick guard with a Bicentennial TBird on it). Any recommendations for where I could have something like this made?

Club member Larry V. makes black guards and Bicentennial Bird decals I believe.

Burny Headstock next to a '76 Gibson............
Like I said, Mother of All!

Burny011.jpg

Now I'm getting confused... the Burny is larger than a '76? (which Carlo sez' is the same size as a '63-'65?) ... My '64 looks like a cross between both - more like the Burny in size but the inset raised area at the top (where it peaks) is more like the '76. This is how the internet doesn't work.

The Burny is definitely bigger than the '76 Gibson (which is saying something!).

It's time for a Scotch, I came home to a disemboweled, partially eaten and vomited up mouse in the middle of the upstairs hall..........
It seems my lovely Latifa has the bloodlust, found an unfortunate victim in the basement and brought it upstairs to kill it.

Circle of Life.

Not so innocent from a while back. Now for a drink jeez!

Not mice but cockroaches, moths ... anything that crawls or flies around our balcony is on the kill-list.

So I've been thinking about trying to get a T-bird but in a 5 string version. From what I can gather you can either pay for Mike Lull to make you one or find an Epiphone Thunderbird bass pro V on eBay.

I guess my question is how are the 5 string epiphones? How is the B string?

Thanks!
