Yeah, not the end of the world but also not "budget" friendly and not that common on the used market.
Yeah, I feel you on the not budget friendly. I've been looking for one of those Matchless bass amps and one popped up the other day. Unfortunately, my budget isn't as friendly as it used to be. LOL. Darn kids.

IDK, he seems to have a well defined notion of what he wants out of something. I could see myself falling into that trap at times though. Especially with my Kemper. Do I want to use a V4B? SVT? AD200? GK? Mesa? Maybe just a Noble.

I use myself as the example, not necessarily @dagrev . I have found that when I have many options to consider, I consider them! When I don't, I just play and focus on the tunes.

I get its an internet chat forum and what we do is consider options and discuss them! Didn't want my want my initial post to make sound too much like a jerk.

But you weren't wrong!

Through my Ampeg head and cab any bass with the neck pickup too close to the neck can sound "unthick." (The '06 Thunderbird and '55 Pbass, the former has been addressed and fixed.) A lot of bass, but something missing in the low mids. Lowering the bass on the head and boosting the mids doesn't fix it. Even lowered the neck pickup to see if that wold help. It's either somewhat boomy and indistinct, or too thin if much bass/boom is removed. And I love huge bass, but it has to be full and not just have lows and top-end clank. My issue is only in a big room. At home it sounds fantastic. As good as any bass I have in fact. In big rooms/live settings things sound very different, and that is the case with the NR. That said, the Ashdown did help and I'm hoping I can more more progress. I just have to find the right ingredients without spending much money.
Sounds like you need to get a Thunderfunk or similar amp with a timbre control (or maybe a stomp box with a similar timbre function) to quickly adjust to room dynamics. See this short thread for more info…

It’ll make pretty much any bass sound great in any room.

Here’s its predecessor… virtually identical to the Thunderfunk
