Thunderbird Club

Those are one of the few TI strings I haven't tried, but not sure they would give you the lows, but could easily be wrong. Their Jazz Rounds might, but they are really light and almost flimsy. But are warm and have good lows. So do Infelds. All pricey.

What's on it currently? Have you tried Power Steels? They have pretty big lows as well. Might try a round core string or something like a regular Boomer (hex core), that are naturally kind of big on the bottom. (There are round core Boomers as well for even more lows.) DR Sunbeams are also round core IIRC. I know you said you don't like to EQ once set (like me), but maybe just boost some lows and/or low-mids when you use it if you like everything else tone wise. (I don't at all mean that to sound condescending as if saying "just adjust your amp.")

Oh, and flats sound great on VPs. Chromes, maybe? Lots of lows from what I recall.
My VP is one of my birds that doesn’t have Power Steels or stainless Superbrights. It has NYXL’s that the seller tossed into the case when he sent it to me. They were unopened so I gave them a shot. I couldn’t tell any difference between them and what the seller said were the stock strings on it when I got it. I tried Black Beauties on it for a little bit, but didn’t like them. So I don’t know. Getting it squared away tone wise isn’t a priority at this point.

Mmmmm, not enough low end?

@Chucky Stiletti . I drove up to the other house this evening. That’s where I keep the ‘13. I played it for a couple of hours through the SVT rig. There is no issue with the pickup screws. I have had it for about five years now and haven’t messed with the pickups since I set it up with a Babicz when I first got it. Maybe put a drop or two of Titebond in the screw hole, let it cure for a week or so, and reinstall the pickup.

Mine could use a level and crown to get the action a bee’s dick lower. But it’s perfectly fine as is. I love the tone from it. The volute doesn’t bother me at all. Mine’s a wonderful Thunderbird and it is why I’m now a NR fanboy.

cool, thx M….I’m thinking it may be resting my thumb on the bridge pup, are you playing with fingers? I notice it with the tone changing, losing volume…I can fix it on the fly with my fingers but would rather not have to..

@Ringhammer ……sorry dude….:smug: the little picture on top probably doesn’t help lol…
If you’re referring to the head being wider than the cab, yeah, but it’s not mine, and I do love the sleeve the SVT-II is in. I wish I had one of those when I had mine. As far as the NR, it’s a pretty one, but just not for me.

Yep. Fingers. I generally use a floating thumb. When I do anchor on a pickup, it’s usually the neck pickup. But I’ve never had an issue resting on the bridge pickup either.
