Is that the T bird pickup that looks like a P Bass powered by a single ceramic magnet?

Thunderbird pickups i can see in pics after the originals are sometimes just blade Humbucker with larger ceramic , and the P bass looking ones with standard ceramic. All are epoxied. If ones not taken apart alot of the build would be a guess. Coil reads would help as the coils are small and a reading would tell what wire was used.

If there is one for sale let me know. If someone wants to send in and have it taken apart it can always be put back together. I have to take apart broken Peavey Super Ferrite all the time due to being wired poorly and they die

This is from my 1989 Gibson, when it was new, that pickup was potted in a black plastic cover, I still have it, and I'm pretty sure it still works - plus, my knee is now famous!

These state to be 2018 TB+

Looking at these they are blade Humbucker with 3 ceramic magnets. One middle and two flanker magnets , both state to be 9.7k

What i cant see is there may be a bent metal plate inside the plastic cover you can see in the picture with the grounding tape

Over the years there have been at least four variations of the "TB Plus", some not having any metal plates at all, this one is a Gibson with a single large metal plate.

PM me on this pickup, I would sell it, the bass it came out of has Lulls in it now.

Interesting! This came out of Will's 1991. Currently in the RNR with its sibling.

These can be built no problem. To be exact exact might require a magnet order. My supplier will make whatever in about 30 days. If someone could measure the magnet length that would be helpful

Also are the magnets 1/8 tall or are the 1/4

Keep in mind that even though a lot of TB+ look the same, they can vary wildly in tone. In my (and Will's) opinion, the sweet spot is from 2001. Not sure how many years it spans on either way, but I'd believe the ones from 2005 in the Studio model are very similar.

Yeah, I've seen pics of those type before, if I recall it's the same as mine, minus the epoxy. Humbuckers with/without plates etc. Gibson tried a lot of different pickups over the years - even today. What they need to do is the new Re-Issue types into Reverse and Non Reverse II's with a 2 point bridge.

Like this.

Ah, you think it's the same internal as the '89? It does sound good, but I think the 2001s sound a lot better. The clarity in them is remarkable.

Interesting thread about a new NR:

I suppose, but anyone could buy them for more than a decade - I chatted them up plenty of times!
You did. A lot before some of us became really involved. They were pretty much unavailable as an aftermarket item (except to you) as of about four or five years ago. Maybe before that. Oh well. And then Thunderbucker Ranch closed up. It’s great there are makers like Matt stepping up to help out.

The ‘05 Studios could well be. Sure love that Thunderbird.
