Thanks, I need to do a little homework...
This shows the basic difference using strat single coil pickups. (Tbird pickups have two coils connected in series within the pickup, but for now consider it as 1 coil with + and - out)

Usually on a Tbird PU, the - lead of the pickup coil is connected to the pickup case and the braid(shield).
If you want to connect the pickups in series, that - lead needs to be kept separate from the ground. That's why they changed the wire for one of the pickups to two conductors and a shield.

Hopefully this makes sense!

Thanks Irv, I think so, yeah.
So one p'up has the shield connected, hence two leads. The other pu'p has it as a separate wire, hence three leads...

Pretty awesome, forgot what pickups it has if it's the one I think..... @Nocturnal would know.....is it shipping from AZ?.again, Congrats!!.

I thought that one was Joe West's bass originally, I not so sure now. I think Joe skinned some TB Plus pickups and potted them into '76 covers and I think his was a slightly different color - I'm prepared to be corrected though :D

Here it is on Last Bass Outpost..... Maybe so?
