I totally agree, I hate pick guards as they take away from the natural beauty. I yank em off all my basses but the only reason I customized one for mine was to go with the Ric theme. Heres a pic before the pick guard.View attachment 1155894
Not a fan of bastardizing basses...but...this is a superb transformation. Very nicely executed!

Alright fellas, you're right! Here's a pic of the Bird and also its great balance. Bathroom mirror pic, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

No. White. The pick guard is, in my mind, an essential part of the genuine look, integral to the line you see. The white is striking, which is as it should be- IF you want that originally intended vibe.

White, because the black gets absorbed somewhat by the black at the edge of the burst. No contrast, no effect.

There are lots of mods for the appearance and it's interesting to dig them, but that original intention never gets boring, for me.

Hmmmm...ok, as long as you are loving it...rock on my brother!
Oh man I saw something sad in a thread posted yesterday, damn near made me weep so I didnt bother commenting. Didnt want to hurt anyone feelings. There is Customizing, Bastardizing and then there is outright savage butchery but what my eyes saw was downright Vandalism. Check out the thread Torched Fender Precision. Like someone was pee'd off at the bass player and flamed up a propane canister and dragged it across the bass's finish. I warn you, its not pretty.

If leaving it off is not on the table... I agree with the Count. The white's better than black. The black gets lost in the finish. I think it was JJR58 who mentioned something about a brass pick guard. With that sunburst... brass would be completely rIdOnKuLaTeD!!!:woot:
