Thunderbird Club

Did something I've never done before. I put flats on the '64 Thunderbird. I got an offer from Sweetwater for some Le Bella DTFs and got to thinking why not give them a try on it Sunday. We do a run through and if they are not a match I have time to take them off and put the SIT Powerwounds back on if it really bugs me. At home they sound great. And feel fantastic.

Also, I sent a reply back to La Bella from when they answered a question thanking them for the reply and that many companies of any kind seem to not bother, and I how appreciated them doing so. They replied again and thanked me for the kind words and said they know there are lots of string options out there and appreciated me using La Bella. I really dig that kind of CS. Makes you want to buy product from people like that.

Let me know your thoughts. The 64 likely started life with flats.

The classic answer for high-tension rounds is Rotosound RS66. I find the SIT Power Steel pretty high-tension. The Dunlop Standard series stainless steel (black box) are some of the highest tension I've played. They're not bright, though. Love the feel, but not the tone, at least for the Thunderbird. I found the Dunlop Standard nickels to be excellent for my Carvin with single coils.

Thanks, Irv. Possibly so. I would like to do both. I miss playing music just for the pure personal enjoyment of it (i.e. rock). There may be time for both being possible, who knows. Especially if I decide to only take on a less than 24/7 role and not work so much. Right now we're in the getting ready to decide phase. I've prepped and explained the whys, issues and options. Now just have to authorize a team (Wed) to recommend an option and start working on it. I have ~20 yrs of experience in helping churches in tough situations and I hate the waiting part and would rather be further along, but as with many things you can do more damage going too fast than a little too slow.

Is there a Board (of Directors? Of Elders? ) that need to make the decision to move, or close, or merge?
If merge is the appropriate choice then I guess the board? at the other Church also need to make the decision to go ahead or reject the approach?
Then a MoA, discovery etc - although you may be part or all of the way through that.

You could be very busy for a good while while that gets sorted, and then the plan gets implemented.

EBCFs work great on Greco birds!

Is the wiring in yours stock, Irv? I may need a new PG, could you make me one?

Mine has been modified, I think new pots for starters as these 3 on the body have a mid point detent, the smaller knob on the PG acts as a master volume? How do the controls on yours work (ahem!) ?

Yes the wiring is stock on mine. I believe its VVT with a 3 way switch.
Let me know on the pickguard. I can use mine as a template.

SIT and Stringjoy are both a little higher tension than most I have played. I'm sure there are others.

It would be a church decision and vote. Which would almost certainly follow the next steps team's recommendation.
Yes, a potential merger church would also need to vote for one to take place--but after some "dating" and logistics get worked out and presented to both churches (assuming only two are involved).
Yes, I would be leading our team as we meet with another's team for a merger. Definitely busy regardless how it shakes out till the dust settles.
