You can stay at my mountain place. No charge. All I ask is you chase away any bears and woodpeckers. The mountain lions and coyotes won’t bother you. You can watch squirrels, blue jays, hawks, and maybe even see a condor. And a couple of deer are back. There’s an SVT and Thunderbirds. The internet works great (no, I don’t do Starlink), so you can work remotely.

This is a great work station. I have no need for it anymore.

Love the digs (not the bears and mountain lion part) and would love to visit one day, but Andy is closer than you or Irv. If it doesn't go over well I'll have to get away quick.

The other night we were talking about painting a double plant hanger black. Stay with me. The wife said we had plenty of black paint. (Meaning she bought too much when we painted the wicker on the deck.) I said "great, I'll get a old bass body, paint it black, get a neck and use parts JT gave me and use the Korea Buckers that were in the '66 body make a bass." She said, "There you go." Something like that. I want to check with the experts, that was a "yes" or equivalent thereof, correct?

I don't have anything in a cart, but was kind of looking around after work to get ideas. I was looking at the Squire Classic Vibe 50s Pbass made in Indonesia. Saw one for around $400 that had a chip at the edge of the pup rout, which is a non issue given I'm going to put two humbuckers in. I'd love to run across a trashed body/bass cheap. Like a pawn shop special--but I've never run across a good deal on anything at a pawn shop around here.

Also looked at this sellers bodies. Anyone ever buy anything from him?

That was one of my problems with the Epibird 5er-not mahogany. IDK how much difference the [old growth] mahogany makes in the 67's tone, but why take a chance?

I think there's something going on. My '81 G&L with mahogony body is near the top of my basses that sound outstanding. I have no idea what flavor of mahogony, but I like it whatever it is.

Exactly - I started playing bass in '66 and the bass players I was drawn to then were Jack Cassidy, Tim Bogart and Jack Bruce - all prone to solo/extrapolate on bass - a departure from the typical (electric) bass-players role up to that point. So I've always had that in me (phrasing more like a guitarist who switches to bass) and even with a structured bass-line I add subtle flourishes where it works. Not gratuitous or 'busy', more lyrical.

BG plays this song*, based on the Bowie live version with Gail Ann Dorsey on bass - love, love, love her bass work - she has such a languid groove the whole song, but listen to her transitional 'flourish' at 3:13 - that's what I'm talkin' about!



"Wild Is the Wind" is a song written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington for the 1957 film of the same name. Johnny Mathis recorded the song for the film, and it was released as a single in November 1957. His version reached the top 40 on the record charts in Billboard magazine. The songwriters were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song in 1958.

Nina Simone first recorded "Wild Is the Wind" for the 1959 live album Nina Simone at Town Hall. In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Scott Yanow described the rendition as a "classic" version. Regarding this recording, Janovitz wrote that "there is a real sense of the Eastern European flavor of the tune. It is a minor-key affair, with a dramatic, sweeping melody." With her approach, "all hope seems lost; she sounds as mournful as she has on almost any of her recordings -- resolved that her lover is gone, yet singing to herself as if he were there."

*David Bowie recorded a version of "Wild Is the Wind" for his 1976 album Station to Station. Bowie was an admirer of Simone's style, and he was inspired to record the song after meeting her in Los Angeles in 1975. I get it. I do appreciate his several very unique abilities, while never understanding the fascination. I like everything from blues to classical, but his music never clicked for me. Many hate what I like, so I get it. There is no right are wrong. He seemed to
became popular after going avant-garde after years of not much broad traction. Once he did Ziggy he was famous everywhere. Which was a very clever move on his part. Meant as a complement to his ability to see something very different and make it work for him. His ability to spot and use talent and help others was also amazing. I'm happy people dig him.

Bond Girl & The Sean Conneries both do "The Spy - In the House of Love" by the Doors. It's the only song I stretch on. Less a bass solo than a joint extrapolation within an instrumental w/Paul. More Dixieland style. I never play it the same twice. I count on the drummer staying centered because I sometimes really bend where the 'one' is.

Finally got a chance to listen (the link didn't work the other day). Love that stuff you're doing under the guitar solo!
Within DJB tunes, I usually have the beginning of my "solos" mapped out, and sometimes the whole thing.
