Thunderbird Club

I don't see a strap button on that.

Its entirely possible that one or more individuals see this and freak out :hyper: but it stands amongst some of the sadder creations Ive ever seen.:vomit: the least he could have done was thrown a tort pickguard on it.
Ew, no.

Well I've decided to learn to play with a pick. Been down the shop and picked up a couple to swap between to see what I like. Dunlop Tortex .88mm & 1.14mm.

Those are too thin for me. I need at least 1mm. I prefer 1.5mm.

Back in the good ol' days, they used to have the picks in li'l cookie jars lined up like a candy counter. Ya just reached in & grabbed which ever ya wanted - 5 for a buck! Sometimes they'd even put 'em on sale. Buy 4, get one free!
That's pretty much how it still is...

Not around here. Now everything's in nice little over priced packages behind the counter:rollno:
Ah, that sucks.

The music store I mainly went to used to just keep them in a little tray at the counter with a bunch of little dividers (for the various thicknesses). I think the other music store around here also does that.

It's a rebuilt, refinished Orville, which is Gibson Japan. It's a very nice bass.
I've been lookin' out for Orville, Burny & Greco in my daily web searches for all things Thunderbird. I can't believe how much the price has jumped on those things! I remember when ya could see them all over the web for $400 - $600 all day long. Now I'm seeing prices like $750 - $1,200! @Nocturnal had mentioned Hamer 'birds. I keep a-lookin', but I ain't a seein'! I think they're a unicorn bass!

Burnys are around, Greco and Orville not nearly so much and it's been awhile since they were made so prices are only going up.

What's the story or background on Burnys?

I can't tell you too much, they're Lawsuit copies and if understand it correct originally from Japan, now they're Chinese. Someone here posted a link to them several pages back (ok, no more than 20 pages back) I just took mine in as trade fodder for the new Epi, it's ok, but an Epiphone Classic is far better at the same price point.

It just happened, I haven't checked here on this thread, but it was mentioned on another forum and sure enough I went to see if photos I'd posted were still up, they were not. In their place was some kind of Photobucket account nonsense, it's a money grab on their part.
I use Photobucket and noticed a shite tonne of pop up ads (almost to the point of making the site unusable) and then being directed to pay for a membership that would delete the ads.:bored: Not going there. Last time I payed to be on a website ad free they added ads back in a year later. :rollno:

In light of the fact that I may never be able to post from photobucket again here's what might be my final tribute to the magnificent Thunderbird in all its golden glory...

Hi All: Lost our rhythm guitarist and need some power trio alternative rock suggestion. Any recommendations? Please no GRN Day or Blink 182. THX
Who's doing the singing?

If you're a cover band, depending on whether whoever does vocals is up to it, you can do songs from bands where there are four people but one of those is a lead singer who doesn't play an instrument.

Nirvana is an obvious choice. Tool, if you can do the vocal lines at the same time as playing. "Alternative rock" is kinda hard to define. Rage Against the Machine, maybe? There's also Kyuss. Some Alice In Chains songs, System of a Down, Sleep, etc.

My apologies up front for the non-TB content although it IS Gibson related! ;) Thought some of you might find this interesting, the restoration of Glen Buxton's (RIP) (Alice Cooper Group) old Gibson SG that was nothing but a body when found by Neal Smith. It's about 24 minutes long. Some guitar noodling with old Cooper songs at the beginning but then Neal appears and talks about how he found it and worked at getting it restored. Anyway, here it is...

Oh my God man!!! You just made me have an "accident"...:wideyed::wideyed::wideyed:

Those are SPECTACULAR!!! Absolutely gorgeous!!!

Do you Photobucket users not have your pics saved on your computers? If you don't have one already... just grab an external hard drive (500GB - 1-TB should be more than adequate), and never rely on a 3rd party again!
