Thunderbird Club

I am late to the party on cat pics but tardiness be damned. Here are my two furry paperweights in the train wreck I call my office.

And how about the cool color on this Lull bass? They call it Candy Apple Orange. I think that the world needs more basses in this color!

Amen on the orange! Love that color--and I'm not really an Orange person. I thought my Hotrod was the best looking Orange I've seen.

is it really that effective to change the pick up cover from plastic to chrome?
i mean it's still the same hardware...

Good question. On an original (or clone) of a vintage 1960s Thunderbird pickup the steel baseplate combined with the nickel silver cover does have a major effect on the physical characteristics of the two coils and magnets...in addition to completely electrically shielding the pickup.

On other designs just adding a cover? Who knows...ooh look, SHINY.

I don't think anybody here said that changing the covers on these pickups would alter their sound.

Yeah. Aren't people stupid for liking their things to look nice or different? Let's all laugh at them.

Why wouldn't they alter the sound? It's basic physics. Try brass covers or aluminum and see what happens. Brass will totally muffle the sound and aluminum reduce the output. Nickel silver is more transparent. And yes, I've used all three.

Yeah. Aren't people stupid for liking their things to look nice or different? Let's all laugh at them.

Yeah, let's do that.

Make up your mind. In one post you state that changing the covers on the pickups in question, the stock plastic covered pickups, was nothing more than "ooh, shiny" and in your next post you go on about "basic physics" and how covers will alter the sound. Which is it? Or are you starting to get a bit foggy and confusing one post for another?

My cousin has a Brindle, she's a nervous wreck of a dog, he never really trained her and she just runs amuck.
She basically tore up his house and most of the furniture.
But he loves her.
Had a Brindle that was the epitome of an alpha dog. Her pup that we kept was Fawn and he was a nervous wreck didn't tear up the house but scared of his own shadow… unless he was behind my mom then he'd act all tough.
This one is in the middle, she's not an alpha but not timid. And very well behaved for a boxer.

Statement intent seemed pretty clear as two points were made related to the specific (original) question; the first opinion was considered and the second doubtful opinion begins with "On other designs...".

Don't put words in my mouth. The ones I actually write are more than enough to prove I'm a fool.

Sorry if you're unable to infer which 'basic physics' I'm implying. It has to do with magnetism and the way various metals can block/alter the existing field changing tone/output of a pickup. Varies but it can be quantified with the right test equipment, unlike 'improving appearance', which is subjective.

'Ooh, shiny' was an attempt to inject some levity. You know, like, 'humor'? Do they have that in hockey or is it all about the missing teeth?

And the troops come rushing in to justify boorish behavior. Excellent.

I have no doubt that Carlo can handle such himself (as he did) - it just seems to me a bit of an unnecessary response, as this is. Oh well... sorry to have gotten involved - no big deal.

Neither him indoors or myself are what you would call dog people and a dog would require a back yard, not a balcony ... and there's the whole thing of walking around with wee bags of hot dogs1t, so it more than likely will never happen.
We have a back yard, but I'm with you on the bags. No thanks. When I was a kid, we had whatever mutt showed up after something happened to the previous mutt. They were usually German Shepard mixes of one kind or another. One was probably part wolf, but who knows. If you want shedding, those will fill entire counties with hair on a daily basis. We lived in east nowhere, which meant the dogs mostly stayed outside all the time, where dogs really belong anyway. So, no little bags. Dogs in a city are not such a great idea. Dog that are the size of a cat are not such a great idea, either, as far as I'm concerned.
